Beck Connell: 300 AL-KO ESC tests

300 swerve and recovery tests

Beck shows caravanners
how ESC can save the day

Have your say

RACING driver Beck Connell put a worried look on the faces of quite a few caravanners at the recent Melbourne Leisurefest.

Sitting next to Beck in a Commodore towing a single-axle caravan, they hung on as her test rig sped down Sandown Raceway's front straight ... and developed the wobbles.

But they needn't have worried, AL-KO's revolutionary electronic stability control unit quickly brought the caravan back into line.

The caravanners were taking part in swerve and recovery tests to experience just how effective the technology is.

Beck, a competitive racer for over a decade, performed over 300 test drives during the four-day leisurefest.

And she said afterwards: "For anyone who has a caravan and wants maximum stability, I highly recommend the AL-KO ESC system."

This year she received the Women of Australian Motor Sport Junior Development Scholarship.

AL-KO marketing services manager Brad Hooper was pleased that his company was again able to offer the opportunity to caravan owners.

"It is one thing to watch the demonstration video or read about the benefits of the technology," he said.

"But it's not until you're actually inside a vehicle experiencing AL-KO ESC activate during a swerve manoeuvre that you really get a sense for what an advancement it is for caravan safety."

The device is a world first breakthrough in caravan towing safety.

It is designed primarily to give the best possible response in an emergency avoidance manoeuvre such as having to swerve suddenly to avoid a car or animal on the road.

Brakes on all wheels on a caravan operate simultaneously as soon as a dangerous sideways movement is detected, wiping off speed and stopping distance in the shortest possible time to maintain the line and stability of the car and caravan for maximum control.
