South Australia's Loxton Waikerie District Council
has decided to provide designated camping areas on the banks of the Murray
River at Holder Bend. Stays will be limited to seven days in any consecutive
21-day period and reserving sites with tents, chairs etc will be banned.
APRIL 24:
Shares in Apollo Tourism and Leisure, builders of
Windsor and Coromal caravans, soared by 12 percent to close at a 2021-high
of 37c yesterday.
APRIL 23:
Fleetwood has replied to speculation regarding a
"potential transaction" involving its RV Solutions division, which comprises
RV accessories company Camec and Melbourne-based caravan repairs and
services company Northern RV. "The company is currently undertaking a
strategic review on the RV Solutions division," it said in a statement to
shareholders today. "However, the process is in the preliminary stage and no
decisions have been made." RV
Solutions pulled in revenue of
$31.2 million in the first half of the 2021 financial year and $3.7 million
in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation,
according to Fleetwood’s half-year results. Fleetwood
held on to the division after offloading its loss-making Windsor and Coromal
caravan manufacturing operations to Brisbane-based Apollo for a mere $1
million "goodwill" in 2018.
APRIL 23:
Caravanners are reminded that new rules regarding the
passing of cyclists come into force in Victoria on April 26. They must be
given at least one metre clearance on roads with speed limits over 60km/h
and 1.5m when speed limits are higher. Under the updated rule, drivers can
briefly cross painted lines to give cyclists the space they need – including
solid lines, double lines, painted tram lane lines and painted islands – but
only when they have a clear view ahead and it is safe to do so.

New figures from Australian public limited financial
technology company Zip Co shows caravan spending is up nearly 179 percent
compared to last year. "Caravan dealers are selling over double from this
time last year," chief operating officer Peter Gray said.

Sydney's recent
Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow hailed a "great success' after more than
61,000 people attended. It was the biggest turnout since the new six-day
format was introduced in 2017. "Our exhibitors were thrilled with the
customer engagement with many reporting record sales and strong demand as
people looked for products, services and inspiration for their next
holiday," Caravan & Camping Industry Association (NSW) chief executive
Lyndel Grey said.

Babinda Rotary Campground in Queensland has been
closed until further notice due to the increased risk of flooding associated
with recent wet weather. Cairns Regional Council said this follows the
closure of the Greenpatch camping ground in Gordonvale, as well as numerous
southern sporting fields including Petersen Park in Edmonton and Alley and
Johnson parks in Gordonvale plus Bill Wakeham Park in Babinda. Boulders RV
Park in Babinda and Bramston Beach Caravan Park remain open but the council
said it will continue monitoring these facilities and will provide further
updates should the situation change.

Tourism NT has launched a domestic marketing campaign
aimed at holidaying drivers: "It's nothing like your normal road trip". The
campaign will be active until the end of May and will primarily target the
domestic 50-plus travel market, with a secondary focus on potential
travellers aged 25-49. Deals from companies including Expedia, BIG4 caravan
parks, Nitmiluk Tours, Kakadu Tourism as well as car and motorhome companies
will be highlighted in the campaign.

Caravan reported to have rolled on Bruce Highway in two-vehicle accident
south of Rockhampton late yesterday.

Entrepreneurial insurance distribution and investment
company Envest has acquired Ken Tame and Associates. Formerly owned by
Allianz, Ken Tame specialises in insurance for recreational vehicles,
including caravans, motorhomes, campervans, slide-ons and fifth wheelers. As
part of the acquisition, it will now provide insurance cover for over 70,000
members of the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia. In a statement,
the CMCA has assured members that Ken Tame and
Associates will continue to provide
"expert and professional service" in meeting their needs. "This member
benefit will give members the best value available. The after-sale service
when in time of need is the one element they pride themselves on," it said.

Lower Murray Gadabouts branch joined with members of the Travellers Chat
forum at Crystal Brook in South Australia for their annual Royal Flying
Doctor Service fundraising auction, which raised $4000. Items were donated
by local Adelaide businesses and individuals.

WA's Tropical Cyclone Seroja has left a trail of devastation
and claimed one life after a 38-year-old was electrocuted in Coral Bay when
a caravan park's power pole fell in raging winds of up to 170kph. The
Anchorage Caravan Park in Grey St, Kalbarri, badly damaged but no injuries
reported. "I've never experienced anything in my life like we experienced
last night," manager Debbie Major told media. Northampton Caravan Park also
reported to have suffered some damage.

The finishing touches were being made today to the
Sydney Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow, which opens tomorrow at Rosehill
Racecourse. "It will not only be one of the biggest events held in 2021 so
far, it will be the ultimate destination for caravan and camping
inspiration," Caravan & Camping Industry Association NSW chief executive
Lyndel Gray (pictured) said. "Given the pent up demand for both events and
travel, we expect this year's supershow to be as popular as ever and we have
a line-up to match that which includes more than 260 exhibitors showcasing
the latest in caravan and camping equipment, caravans, motorhomes,
campervans, slide-ons, camper trailers, tents, caravan and camping
equipment, 4WD and touring accessories."

Man, 42, critical after being found with stab wounds at a
caravan park on the state’s Central Coast today. Police said he suffered
several stab wounds to his neck and back and was airlifted to John Hunter
Hospital. They have appealed for anyone with information about the attack at
the park on The Entrance Road to contact them.

flee Western Australia's mid-west before fierce Tropical Cyclone Seroja
and a tropical low make landfall. You are not safe and should seek safer
accommodation or leave now. "If you're in a tent or caravan, you are simply
not protected against the damaging winds that may hit the region," Acting
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Craig Waters has warned.

Wilsons rivers have been urged to monitor the rivers closely and prepare to
relocate as water levels rise.

Queensland's Cassowary Coast Regional Council Mayor
Mark Nolan believes work on upgrades to Tully and River Avenue caravan parks
will ensure the region is "well placed to attract new visitors to the
region". The area provided an experience like no other ... away from the
crowds where visitors could reconnect with nature and make memories to last
a lifetime, he said. "Our regional landscape with natural attractions such
as the Wet Tropics and Great Barrier Reef on our doorstep provide an
opportunity for a truly unique visitor experience," he added. Applications
from potential caretakers/managers at the two caravan parks have now closed.

The Caravan Industry Association of Australia
recently discussed key issues with federal government policymakers, in
Canberra. Chief executive Stuart Lamont and industry insights and government
relations executive Hugh Fitzpatrick met more than 20 individual decision
makers within the federal government to highlight the importance of the
caravan industry and the role the sector is playing in regional Australia's
recovery in 2021. This included meeting deputy Prime Minister Michael
McCormack who, the CIAA says, continues to be ''a strong ally for the
industry''.

will hold its annual conference at the Gold Coast's RACV Royal Pines on May
4 and 5.

Fleetwood, operators of RV accessories company Camec
and Melbourne-based caravan repairs and services company Northern RV, has
appointed a new chief executive officer. Bruce Nicholson will take up the
position on July 1, replacing Brad Denison who resigned last November. A
civil engineer, he was chief executive officer and managing director of Waco
Kwikform Group. Fleetwood described Mr Nicholson as "a highly credentialled
senior executive with substantial experience delivering results in
challenging environment across Australia and New Zealand and on projects in
North America and Europe". The value of shares in Fleetwood rose after the
announcement.
