Fleetwood Corporation, which has offloaded its Coromal and Windsor caravan manufacturing business to Apollo Tourism and Leisure, has a new company secretary. Elizabeth Maynard will take over the role and that of General Counsel on September 3. She will provide "dedicated in-house legal advisory, governance and compliance expertise" to Fleetwood and also support the board. Chief financial officer Andrew Wackett, who was appointed interim company secretary in July this year, will continue as joint company secretary.

AUGUST 13 (updated):
A gunman opened fire on an RV at Rockhampton in Queensland early today. Police are investigating "an incident" in which damage was caused to the parked converted mini-bus at the Music Bowl on Yaamba Rd. Two New Zealand tourists were camped overnight near the Bruce Highway when they heard two loud bangs at around 5am. Damage was caused to the body of the vehicle and the windscreen was shattered but the couple, a man aged 65 and a woman aged 56, was not injured. It was the only vehicle in the area at the time. Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said the travellers "hit the deck" after the first shot. He believed police would be able to recover at least one of the rounds. There was no evidence the tourists were specifically targeted, he added. "At this stage we are treating it as a gunshot, obviously until such time as we're able to recover any rounds we won't be able to confirm 100 percent but every indication at this stage was that it was a firearm used in this offence". AUGUST 10:
A 19-year-old man was arrested after a disturbance at a Cairns caravan park. Police allege he refused to leave the park at Manoora and has been charged with trespass and obstructing and assaulting police. He will appear in court later this month.

Standown Caravan Park in Queensland is on the market for $1.6 million. The 18-acre park near Gympie began its life as a Veterans Retreat in 2005 but has since grown to offer a popular, unique and relaxed camping experience for veterans and nomads alike. The 68-site park has a dedicated and consecrated memorial to Veterans of all conflicts. Selling agents Laguna Real Estate say that improvements to the Bruce Highway and planned upgrades provide an "enticing business opportunity" within close proximity to the Fraser and Sunshine coast, hinterland and Brisbane. "It's a highly desirable relaxation destination," they add.

AUGUST 10:
A NSW caravanner is fighting for his life after being taken seriously ill during his dream trip around Australia. Peter Collings was struck down with haemophilus influenza, septicaemia, meningitis and kidney failure on his birthday a week ago and is now on life support at a Brisbane hospital. Partner Wendy Ryan is at his bedside. Their caravan is marooned in Gladstone, Queensland, and accumulating hundreds of dollars in storage fees. Mr Collings' daughter Madison has now launched an online Gofundme appeal for help. "My step mum is now stuck in Brisbane with him, while their caravan is stuck back in Gladstone six hours away," Madison explains. "She has no licence, nowhere to stay and a very limited amount of money. So if anybody could donate even $5 to go towards finding my step mum some accommodation while she stays with my dad during his stay in hospital we would be forever grateful."

AUGUST 9:
Readers of NSW's Newcastle Herald are pleading with caravanners to head west and help drought-affected farmers. "Do yourself and these townsfolk a favour and head out west for a short break," Robert and Evelyn Gibson wrote in a letter to the editor. They urged owners to fill up their caravans with three or four days' water if possible so they don't use valuable reserves at their destinations. "It is always a joy to visit these areas, even in drought," the Gibsons said. "Stay in a caravan park or motel, go to the pictures, check out the shops, buy petrol and supplies, get a haircut, have a meal at the pub or restaurant and visit their local attractions. This would be a win-win situation."

Caravanners and campers have been urged to secure their belonging after thieves struck at Queensland's Inskip Point camping ground at Rainbow Beacdh near Gympie. The crooks made off with a bright yellow 14ft Wilderness kayak along with a paddle and red and black life jacket. Other property was also stolen.

Fleetwood, which has sold its Coromal and Windsor caravan brands for just $1 million, today announced it has completed the acquisition of the business and assets of Northern RV, a Melbourne-based caravan plumbing and electrical services and parts supplier, for $10 million.

The club says it will work closely with interested parties to identify suitable venues, activities and entertainment.

Travelling clinician Michael Harvey to fight $100 infringement notice dished out by Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley after he pulled over on the outskirts of Kununurra in WA at midnight to "rest" in his van. Mr Harvey, from Melbourne, says the fine contradicts campaigns urging people not to drive when tired. He claims a council ranger would not accept his explanation that he resting and told him he was not allowed to camp there.

AUGUST 6:
Police are searching for crooks who stole a debit card after breaking into a caravan north of Brisbane. The theft happened sometime between July 22 and August 3 on Deception Bay Road, Deception Bay. Police said the offenders removed a side window of the caravan and rifled through the contents, damaging some items. They located the debit card and a set of ignition keys and then fled when they could not start the vehicle parked near the caravan.

Car towing caravan rolls on NSW's Pacific Highway at Tintenbar. Emergency services attended and treated driver for minor injuries. And in another accident this afternoon, two caravanners escaped unhurt when their rig collided with a sedan at the intersection of the Dawson and Burnett highways in Biloela, Queensland,

Caravanners sleeping at a NSW rest area had a rude awakening when a car being chased by police smashed into a tree just metres away from their rig. The Lismore couple's caravan and ute were showered with debris at the Hume Highway's Frank Partridge VC Memorial Rest Area, Menangle. Four young men managed to escape from the mangled wreckage without serious injuries before the car burst into flames. Police inquiries are continuing.

Croydon Shire Council in the Gulf Savannah region of far north Queensland is looking for a "motivated couple" to run its caravan park for two years.

A 67-year-old tourist was brutally assaulted with a hammer and robbed at a Queensland caravan park last night. His wife suffered a heart attack during the drama in which the man suffered serious facial injuries. Both were taken to hospital as police mounted a full-scale search for the thugs. The two men used the couple's car to escape from the Coconut Grove Caravan Park in McLver Street, Hervey Bay. They also stole mobile phones and other property. The vehicle stolen was a 2011 Silver coloured Ford Mondeo with Victorian registration YMO 737.

The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia will donate $5000 towards Buy a Bale to support regional and rural farmers battling the devastating Australia-wide drought. "We already understand the importance of supporting these communities through RV tourism," chief executive Richard Barwick said. "RV travellers visiting these towns show their support by spending money and generating an economic stimulus for these local communities. Now we want to do more to support the farmers and communities who are experiencing the negative effects of the drought." With almost 99.8 percent of New South Wales affected, as well as parts of Queensland, Buy a Bale is providing meaningful support to farmers and their communities by delivering hay and other essential items during this time of need.

AUGUST 2:
THE Caravan Trade Industry Association of Victoria and Everything Caravan & Camping will begin their free program of safety inspections for caravans and RVs at Albury Wodonga's Border Caravanning and Camping Expo on August 24. A similar program by Caravanning Queensland has already proved a resounding success.
