With the aid of New Age Caravans, BIG4 Holiday Parks has produced a new guide on how to avoid common mistakes when buying an RV.

SEPTEMBER 25:
Fleetwood's RV parts and services division, which comprises Camec and Northern RV, increased its revenue by nine percent to $72.8 million during the last financial year. Figures in the corporation's annual report to shareholders show that earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation rose 59 percent to $5.7 million.

Two caravanners taken to Mackay hospital after a rollover on Queensland's Bruce Highway south of Clairview.

SEPTEMBER 24:
A man was arrested after police pursued a car towing a caravan on SA's Eyre Peninsula. Patrols attempted to stop the rig but it continued north along Flinders Highway near Port Kenny heading towards Streaky Bay. The pursuit was terminated shortly after for safety reasons. The black Toyota utility and caravan, bearing suspected fake number plates, had allegedly been seen "loitering" around the area by a man who had a wallet and other items stolen from his car. The Toyota and caravan were again spotted in Ceduna last night. Police said they monitored the rig throughout the area until a safe place for road spikes could be set up on the Eyre Highway near the Yalata/Penong border. The car's tyres were spiked but the caravan's tyres were not affected. They eventually came to a stop about 80km from Nullabor. A 36-year-old Victorian man now faces numerous charges.

SEPTEMBER 24:
The Retreat Caravans Family Group and Owners Club Rally at Geelong in Victoria has raised $16,000 for Cancer Council Victoria.

SEPTEMBER 24:
Ingenia Communities, which operates chains of lifestyle and holiday parks, plans to continue strategies aimed at raising its cash earnings, profitability and market share. Its annual report says it will achieve this by, among other things, acquiring existing communities, developing greenfield sites and expanding existing lifestyle communities. The report said total revenue during the last financial year rose 21 percent to $228.7 million while statutory profit fell 14 percent to $29.3 million. Underlying profit rose 28 percent to $47.2 million.

SEPTEMBER 23:
A massive 89 percent of 1000-plus respondents to a Camps Australia Wide poll said they used visitor information centres during their travels. The poll followed news that four centres on Queensland's Sunshine Coast were due for closure.

Reports of another sink hole hitting the popular caravan and camping ground at Inskip Point east of Gympie in Queensland.

SEPTEMBER 19:
Whitsunday Regional Council in Queensland is seeking new contractors to manage its tourist park at Proserpine for the next two years and four months.

SEPTEMBER 18:
North Burnett Regional Council in Queensland is asking locals for their views on whether a local rest area should extend its hours. The Gayndah Railway Precinct facility in Navigational Street currently limits stays to 24 hours but Gayndah Heritage Railway Rail Trail, who lease the land, now wants to extend this to 72 hours. Comments close on Oct 4.

Clybucca police caravan safety meetingSEPTEMBER 17:
A Safe Towing Community Engagement was held yesterday at NSW's Pacific Hway northbound Clybucca rest area. Over 30 caravanners attended. "They came prepared with written questions and detailed information relating to their vehicles seeking clarification on correct weights and safe towing practices," a police spokesperson said. "Many made requests for further sessions to be planned with provisions for their vehicles to be weighed." Caravanners described it as "an excellent" initiative and agreed that further sessions would be even more beneficial if putting RVs on scales was included..

SEPTEMBER 16:
Owners of about 70 Retreat caravans have converged on Victoria's Geelong Showgrounds for their third national rally. They will be raising funds for the local Cancer Council.

SEPTEMBER 14:
Grey nomad airlifted to hospital after her caravan rolled into her. The 71-year-old Victorian woman suffered leg injuries in the accident at Nanango Caravan Park on the D’Aguilar Highway in Queensland.

Bingara's popular Riverside Caravan Park in NSW receives $231,395 State Government grant to upgrade its amenities block and build a new caretaker's residence.

Retreat caravan rollsSEPTEMBER 13:
A caravan rolled in a three-vehicle accident on NSW's New England Highway. No one was seriously injured in the pile-up north of Bendemeer. Reports said a southbound car veered onto the wrong side of the highway and collided with the 4WD towing the Retreat caravan. A third vehicle then clipped the 4WD.

 

Caravan involved in Monaro Hwy smashSEPTEMBER 13:
A truck driver was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition today after a smash involving a ute towing a caravan on a NSW highway. The caravanner escaped uninjured but was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol testing. This morning's accident happened on the Monaro Highway in the Snowy Mountains near the Numeralla River rest area just north of Cooma. The 27-year-old truckie was trapped in his cab before being flown to Canberra Hospital suffering suspected fractures to his legs and pelvis. The caravan was reportedly destroyed and both the ute and truck were extensively damaged.

SEPTEMBER 13:
Unoccupied cabin at White Sands Riverside Caravan Park near Murray Bridge in SA destroyed by fire in the early hours. Damage estimated at $100,000. "Thankfully no one was hurt and no other property was damaged," the park said on its Facebook page. "It is a timely reminder for all of us to make sure that insurance is up to date, smoke alarms are fitted and power is turned off if site is not used for extended periods of time."

Caravanning Queensland has hailed its recent inaugural three-day Sunshine Coast caravan expo at Nambour Showgrounds "a huge success", with nearly 11,500 enthusiasts attending.

Woman who, at the age of 14, allegedly dumped her newborn boy in a toilet bowl and covered him with toilet paper at Western Australia's Kambalda Caravan Park near Kalgoolie in 1995 charged with murder and bailed until November 11.

Tenterfield Lodge and Caravan Park in NSW, an award-winning member of the Kui chain of parks, is planning to organise a fundraiser for bushfire victims.

Crooks made off with family's 19-year-old dual-axle Coromal pop-top caravan, rego P07 778, from yard in Cornelia Creek Rd, Echuca, Victoria.

 

SEPTEMBER 10:
Woman, 38, charged after spate of thefts from holiday and caravan parks in Tea Gardens and Port Macquarie, NSW. Refused bail and will appear in court on October 21.

SEPTEMBER 10:
Jayco Silverline Outback caravan stolen from Gilston Road at Highland Park on Gold Coast on September 2 has been recovered. Reports say it was found by a real estate agent during a house inspection.

Apollo has announced it plans to "enhance and refine" its Coromal and Windsor caravans to ensure "maximum fit and profitability".

SEPTEMBER 8:
The Bruce Highway's infamous Cooroy Hill north of Nambour in Queensland claimed another caravan today. No injuries were reported in the latest rollover involving a Nissan Navara towing a caravan on the notorious southbound lanes. The steep hill, which is prone to high winds, has been the scene of several accidents involving caravans flipping.

Stolen Gold Coast caravanSEPTEMBER 8:
A Gold Coast truckie has appealed for help in tracing his stolen 22ft Jayco Silverline Outback caravan. Neil Gauslaa said the worst part was losing personal property such as clothing and other items stored inside the 2017 caravan, which disappeared from Gilston Roa at Highland Park on September 2. One identifying feature of the RV is its tow hitch, which has been moved from under chassis to top of chassis. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Emergency services called to scene of caravan accident on NSW's Newell Hwy near Wyalong. Understood car towing caravan and truck involved. No further details available.

The popular 60-seat Beachcombers Family Bistro at the Town of 1770's camping ground and caravan park north of Bundaberg in Queensland is up for lease.

Motorist, 84, who roared past a caravan at 35kph over the speed limit in rain near Faraday on Victoria's Calder Freeway copped a $537 fine and had his licence suspended.

Nearly 20 iconic caravans from yesteryear are expected to take part in the five-day inaugural Sunliner Gracemur Rally. Only about 120 of the unique fibreglass caravans were built in Bundaberg in the 1960s ... and aptly enough the event, beginning on September 11, will be held in the Rum City's Burnett Heads Caravan Park.

NSW Fair Trading officers recently swooped on RV dealers during a caravan and motorhome compliance operation, it has been revealed. Of 57 dealers inspected, 15 were non-compliant with the legislation and 32 disciplinary actions were taken. "The significant cost of these vehicles means consumers could potentially lose a lot of money," it said. "We will continue to work with traders to ensure they understand their responsibilities under the legislation."

Sunland caravan owners group has poured more than $2000 into Echuca Regional Health's cancer and welfare centre. The money was raised during gathering of 45 members at the northern Victoria town.

Aspen Group, operators of a chain of holiday and lifestyle parks, has a new chief financial officer. Devron Abdol joined the group in 2016 and has over 15 years of international experience in finance and assurance services.

SEPTEMBER 3:
Woman suffering severe burns airlifted to hospital after fire swept through part of a WA caravan park. Four caravans were destroyed in the ferocious blaze at Myalup Beach Caravan Park between Mandurah and Bunbury. The cause is being investigated but it is not thought to be suspicious. Witnesses reported hearing several explosions as the flames spread.
