Motorist had lucky escape when wheel came adrift from a caravan and smashed into his vehicle on Perth's Mitchell Freeway near the Hay Street exit today. Undamaged caravan later removed from scene by tow truck.

Andrew McEvoy will give up his directorship of holiday and lifestyle parks operator Ingenia on June 30 to take up a full-time executive role overseas. Ingenia chairman Jim Hazel said Mr McEvoy had made a "huge contribution" to the board, bringing important experience and knowledge to the tourism industry and digital marketing in particular. "The board and management would like to thank Andrew for his commitment during a period of significant evolution and growth," he added.

Whyalla City Council in SA is planning make things easier for caravanners wanting to stay a while. It will upgrade the carpark adjacent to Sumthin' Tastee cafe to provide more room for vehicles towing caravans and a slip road to improve access.

An electrical fault is thought to have caused a blaze at the former Sunshine Coast's New Age Caravans premises on Old Maroochydore Road at Kunda Park in the early hours.

Fleetwood has reported an eight percent fall in revenue from its Camec RV spare parts and Northern RV servicing operations during the financial year's first half. In
 a report to shareholders released today, chairman Phillip Campbell said the two sectors had operated "in a tough environment for locally-built caravans". This was expected to continue in the second half.

Tourism NT will partner with the Caravan Industry Association of Australia and other local and national tourism businesses to promote NT holiday incentives through interstate tourism databases. Association chief executive Stuart Lamont said the territory was "ready-made" for a self-drive adventure. "The Caravan Industry Association of Australia is excited to partner in the Key to the NT promotion opening up some of the many attractions which should be on every Australian's bucket list," he added.

FEBRUARY 23:
Road safety campaigner and truckie Rod Hannifey has again called for colleagues and caravanners to work together in reaching a solution to parking at rest areas. "We cannot make this a war between two groups who live on and must share the road," he said.

Stolen bikeFEBRUARY 21:
A thief made off with a $3000 electric bicycle from a rack on the rear of a caravan at a SA caravan park. The alarm was raised when its owner at the Mannum Riverside Caravan Park heard sounds late at night and went to investigate. He was met with the sight of the crook riding off at speed into the darkness on the olive-green coloured Smart Motion bike. Police are investigating.

Willow Bend Caravan Park, NSWFEBRUARY 20:
Willow Bend Caravan Park in NSW will undergo a $6.7m redevelopment during the next decade. Wentworth Shire Council acquired the rundown riverside park in 2017and regards it as an "important community asset" to the town of Wentworth. But according to a report to yesterday's council meeting, the standard of the park’s facilities has declined and it is now in need of a major upgrade or replacement. "In some circumstances the facilities are no longer compliant with modern standards," it said.

Writing in the transport industry's major newspaper Big Rigs, truckie of 25 years standing Tyne Mc Pherson predicts there will be more deaths due to "inexperienced" caravanners.

Reclassifications by Transurban have seen tolls for some caravanners soar by 300 percent.

Stolen Golden Eagle caravanFEBRUARY 4:
Caravan crooks have again been busy. This time they struck in the early hours at North Bendigo in Victoria, towing away a Golden Eagle Rambler from Norfolk Street. The single-axle caravan carried the registration number T92257. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

FEBRUARY 4:
Shares in Brisbane-based global RV rental and manufacturer Apollo Tourism and Leisure have nosedived, opening at a 12-month low of 0.335c today. The builder of the Windsor and Coromal brands of caravans last week warned shareholders to expect lower profits in the first half of the current financial year. After-tax profits were predicted to be around $10.5 million compared to $14.7 million in last year's first-half.
