JUNE 30:
Vehicle towing caravan collided with bridge on Bruce Highway near Bowen today. Queensland Ambulance Service spokesman told Caravanning News the caravanners were not seriously injured and declined hospital treatment.

JUNE 30:
Tourism Research Australia figures released today show that caravan parks and commercial camping grounds fared particularly well in the March quarter, welcoming 10.9 million people ... a 16 percent rise.

More than 40 RVs were forced to pitch at Mount Isa Golf Club in Queensland's Gulf Country after the city's tourist parks put up 'full' signs. Local police had reminded travellers that rules applied at rest areas to ensure heavy vehicle drivers could stop and rest and that they should not be used for long-term camping. The maximum period was 20 hours unless signed otherwise and fines of between $266 and $2669 applied for not complying with rest area restrictions, they said.

JUNE 30:
Shares in Fleetwood, which operate RV accessories company Northern Camec and Melbourne-based caravan repairs and services company Northern RV, opened at a four-month low of $2.22 today.

JUNE 30:
Lower speed limits have been slapped on caravans and motorhomes using Britain's roads. The maximum speed is now 60mph (96km/h) on motorways and dual carriageways, and 50mph (80km/h) on single carriageways. RVs are now banned from using a motorway's right hand lane.

Ban Ban Springs rest areaJUNE 29:
Travellers have been warned of a Queensland Health COVID alert involving the rest area at Ban Ban Springs in the North Burnett. The female public toilet is the site of a casual contact on June 26 between 9am and 11.59pm. Queensland Health said users must get tested and quarantine themselves.

JUNE 28:
The bodies of two men in their 30s were found in a tent at a caravan park on the Old Omeo Hwy in Victoria this morning. It is thought they died of carbon monoxide poisoning. Police said the deaths were not believed to be suspicious and they would prepare a report for the Coroner

JUNE 28:
Childers on Queensland's busy Bruce Highway could soon offer a new caravan park to travellers. A development application has been submitted to Bundaberg Regional Council on behalf on AA Plus Group. If approved, it would deliver 84 caravan sites and 42 cabins, associated amenities and infrastructure.

Camper trailer involved in accident on Queensland's Capricorn Highway at Southernwood Road. Paramedics assessed two people who declined transport to hospital.

JUNE 27:
NSW police hunting for two armed men who forced their way into a caravan at a car park on Tweed Coast Road, Cabarita, in the early hours but fled empty handed. The caravan's occupants - a man, woman and eight-year-old girl - were unharmed.

JUNE 27:
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys has warned people attempting to dodge COVID travel rules that inquiries will be made at caravan parks and places where people congregate at this time of year.

The Ningaloo Lighthouse Holiday Park on WA's North West Cape, which closed after the COVID pandemic struck Australia, will undergo an $85 million redevelopment to showcase a diverse range of new sites, a mix of eco tents and villas plus hotel rooms and small group lodges.

Residents of Coober Pedy in SA may soon be able to give their views on camping and recreational vehicle parking in the area. Councillors on Tuesday will decide whether they should be formally asked if camping and recreational vehicle parking on Crown land should be better regulated; whether camping and RV parking should be permitted on council-owned or controlled land and whether the current regulation of camping and RV parking on privately-owned or controlled land should be changed.

Remote caravan parks in the Northern Territory can now apply for the next round of highly sought-after Visitor Experience Enhancement Program grants worth up to $50,000.

A South Australian dad from McLaren Vale plans to spend some of his $6.7 million
Lucky Lotteries Super Jackpot windfall yesterday on buying a caravan to take his young family on a road-trip around Australia. He joins a growing list of lucky caravanners who have scooped a Lotto fortune.

Australia's RV-sharing platform Camplify, which now also operates in New Zealand, the UK and Spain, is expected to begin trading on the Australian Stock Exchange on June 28.

Sydney's new COVID-19 gathering and movement restrictions have forced the cancellation of the Illawarra Caravan Camping Lifestyle Expo, planned for July 2 to 4 at Kembla Grange Racecourse.

Roadstar announces that AMH Autogroup on NSW's Princes Hwy at Moruya has become its newest dealer, trading as AMH Caravans and becoming the only Roadstar dealer in NSW.

SA's Karoonda East Murray Council plans to spend up to $400,000 on upgrading the caravan park in the small farming town of Karoonda, which is attracting more and more grey nomads.

The fourth annual National Retreat Caravans Owners and Family Group Rally will be held at the Riverlands Event Centre in Barmera SA from October 16 to October 25. The group's previous three national rallies raised about $43,000 for the Cancer Council and was spread over NSW, Queensland and Victoria.

New COVID rules will make it compulsory to use the QR Check In Qld app when arriving at Queensland caravan parks from July 9.

Caravan Parks of Australia is looking for a couple to work as support officers at its Carrum Downs Holiday Park in Victoria, admitting the job "is not for the faint-hearted".

Justin Hales' successful caravan, motorhome and campervan sharing platform Camplify is set to hit the Australian Stock Exchange this month. According to reports, the already successful five-year-old company is looking to raise $11.5 million at $1.42 a share.

SA's York Peninsula Council is looking for a "friendly, energenic and highly motivated" management team to run its Yorketown Caravan Park.

JUNE 19:
South Australia's Department for Trade and Investment has put together a selection of caravan parks for sale in "unique" regional locations. It includes Penola Caravan Park on the Limestone Coast, Westbrook Caravan and Cabin Park and Riversedge Caravan Park, both at Murray River Lakes and Coorong, Ceduna Caravan Park and Wyalla Caravan Park, both on the Eyre Peninsula. "These represent huge tourism investment opportunity and a great way to capitalise on the current and future boom in SA regional tourism," the department said.

Logan City Council in south-east Queensland has moved to amend local laws to officially ban camping on council-owned or controlled land. It says this would improve its ability to resolve illegal camping complaints "in a timely manner".

Two caravanners treated for minor injuries after their rig rolled on Thunderbolts Way south of Nowendoc in NSW.

JUNE 15:
Wellington Shire councillors in Victoria will tonight discuss the question of whether a dump point should be installed for self-contained campers. But it has been pointed out that the town's caravan park already has one, with a council officer suggesting the park's operators should be asked whether they would allow other campers to use it for a small fee.

Queensland's Douglas Shire Council has voted to complete a business case for a new RV park in Mossman.

Boroma Roamers and friends have confirmed that their next caravan rally will be held at Casino in NSW from October 14 to 17.

A caravanner who counted RVs during an 11-day drive along the Stuart Hwy to Darwin last month recorded 610 caravans ... 143 of which were Jaycos. New Age came in second with 34 followed by Crusader with 30.

An Adelaide couple who scooped a $2.9 million fortune in Saturday's X Lotto draw said they would "like to get ourselves a caravan in the future so we can travel".

A caravan was engulfed in flames at Ocean Grove Holiday Park on Victoria's Bellarine Peninsula last night. Fire Rescue Victoria told Caravanning News that firefighters arrived within six minutes and brought the outbreak under control within two minutes. "There were no injuries," a spokesperson said.

JUNE 13:
Woman dies in horror head-on smash involving caravan near Wagga Wagga in NSW. Her Holden Astra collided head-on with Mitsubishi Triton towing the caravan on Sturt Hwy at Yarragundry. She died at the scene. The caravanner managed to escape from his overturned Triton before it erupted into flames. He was treated at hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

With COVID putting the reins on overseas travel, caravan parks are experiencing a boom in business. Grant Wilckens, chief executive of the 280-strong G'Day Group of holiday parks, reports that bookings are generally up nearly 150 percent, with NSW enjoying a near-200 percent rise.

Queensland MP Robbie Katter has called for border checks to be made on grey nomads travelling with dogs between the Sunshine State and the Northern Territory to prevent further spreading of the killer canine disease Ehrlichiosis.

Founded in 2014 and with over 5000 RVs on its books, Australia's largest and fastest-growing campervan, motorhome and caravan sharing community Camplify will reportedly list on the Australian Stock Exchange later this month.
