BREAKING NEWS:

MARCH 31:
Police in Victoria have warned caravanners they could be stopped for safety checks. According to media, Ballarat and Moorabool Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Stuart Gale said that patrols will be intercepting caravans and "if necessary weigh them to ensure compliance".

MARCH 31:
Council-owned caravan parks on the Queensland's Gold and Sunshine coasts have reportedly been advised to refuse requests for entry from anyone in Greater Brisbane during the current COVID lockdown period.

MARCH 31:
Victorians snapped up 50,000 Regional Travel Vouchers in just over three minutes yesterday. The $200 vouchers are for a minimum two-night stay in accommodation including caravan parks, campgrounds.

Brisbane-based Apollo Tourism and Leisure shares opened at a 2021-low of $0.265 on the Australian Stock Exchange today.

MARCH 30:
Larger sites and dog-friendly spaces are among the key features of a $17m plan to redevelop the four beachfront caravan parks operated by Fraser Coast Regional Council. At its March meeting, it adopted master plans for the Burrum Heads and Scarness Beachfront Tourist Parks.

Rental reforms in Victoria mean that caravan park owners will be banned from increasing rents more than once a year.

Star Roadhouse signMARCH 29:
A man who has tested positive to COVID-19 called at the Miriam Vale Star Roadhouse and Caravan Park on Queensland's Bruce Highway while visiting Gladstone from March 25 to 27, it was revealed today. A spokeswoman at the park told Caravanning News that an update would be released by Wide Bay Public Heath later today. "No restrictions have been imposed on us and we have been advised he did not enter the shop, so it is low risk," she said. The shop and caravan park were still operating normally but "with a concentration on hygiene practices". The man also visited the Gin Gin Bakery at Gin Gin, a popular stopping off spot for grey nomads on the Bruce Highway. He also used the rural town's men's public toilets. In a Facebook posting today, the bakery said all its staff who worked on that afternoon were in quarantine and have had their COVID test. "We are waiting for the results to come back," it wrote. "Please be advised that it is safe to shop at the bakery. We follow strict guidelines for COVID-19."

MARCH 28:
Victorians will be able to benefit from the Regional Travel Voucher Scheme when 50,000 vouchers come up for grabs on March 30. The $200 vouchers will be limited to one per household and a minimum two-night stay is required in paid accommodation including caravan parks, campgrounds.

MARCH 27:
South Australia's City of Victor Harbor has decided to abandon its trial of the free RV overnight camping site at Dump Beach car park, following complaints from the local community. A motion calling for another six-month trial at a more suitable site, such as the town's information bay where a dump point is located, was lost. Cr David Kemp said most problems seemed to stem from tent campers who frequently sat around campfires and partied, leaving behind large amounts of rubbish when they left.

Additional overnight Spirit of Tasmania sailings have been introduced on May 16, 23, 30 and June 6, 13 and 27 to cope with number of vehicles, including caravans and motorhomes, crossing the Bass Strait.

Mount Remarkable District Council in SA seeking experienced caretaker for 12-months at its Melrose Caravan and Tourist Park.

MARCH 25:
Northern Territory police have appealed to travellers to take extra care during the upcoming Easter holiday. "Before heading out for the break, we ask that everyone checks their trailers, campers, caravans and vehicles are registered and roadworthy," they said. "Addressing any mechanical or safety issues now could very well save lives."
They will be operating a Territory-wide road safety campaign between April 1 and 5, targeting drink driving, vehicle registration and roadworthiness.

MARCH 24:
Caravan Industry Association of Australia today announced it is again actively promoting registrations for this year's National Conference on Gold Coast between May 4 and 7.

Splitters FarmMARCH 24:
Bundaberg's newest caravan park has been awarded a million dollars by the Queensland Government. The $1.086m will come from its Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund and will be spent on 65 powered and non-powered campsites and eight, five-star luxury eco-tents at Splitters Farm, which is predicted to attract 66,000 visitors a year. Completion is expected in late July.

MARCH 23:
A convoy of caravans, trailers and exhibitors will make its way to Nambour Showgrounds for the South Queensland Caravan, Camping, Fishing and 4X4 Expo from April 9 to11 April, it was announced today.

MARCH 20:
More than 340 motorhomes and caravans have converged on South Burnett's Blackbutt Showgrounds in Queensland for the CMCA Solos Network week-long rally.

MARCH 19:
Family-owned and operated Euroa Caravan Park in Victoria was able to remain open during the COVID epidemic thanks to accommodating crews working on the $235 million north east rail line upgrade, according to Nationals Senator for Victoria Bridget McKenzie.

Australian Caravan Club's Lower Murray Gadabouts branch in South Australia is holding its first muster for 2021 at Murray Bridge after a tumultuous 2020. The 16 members will discuss this year's future events before wrapping up the gathering on March 22.

Kangaroo IslandMARCH 19:
SeaLink is offering two travellers free return ferry fares to Kangaroo Island between May 15 and September 14 when they travel with their car, camper trailer or caravan. But it warns: "Camping is only permitted in designated areas on Kangaroo Island." Meanwhile, than a thousand caravanners are taking advantage of a special Spirit of Tasmania deal in which RVs will cross the Bass Strait to the Apple Isle on the cheap until June 30.

MARCH 19:
Queensland's Whitsunday Regional Council has apologised after mistakenly advertising for someone to take over management of Wangaratta Caravan Park. "The current contract does not expire until May 2022, with the new tender expected to be released early 2022," it said in a Facebook statement.

Country Road Caravan Park on the New England Highway at Uralla in NSW, which is under new ownership, has joined the Kui Parks chain.

Caravanning Queensland claims to have set a new record for the largest caravanning, camping and outdoor expo on the Gold Coast, with almost 20,000 attendees rolling through the gates of Metricon Stadium on the weekend.

Caravanners ran for cover when bull escaped from livestock truck and caused chaos at SA's Murray Bridge showgrounds, damaging campervan during its hour-long rampage.

Queensland-based Majestic Caravans is advertising for repair technicians and stressing: "Time wasters, clock watchers, prima donnas, people with attitudes or anyone who cannot come to work on time need not apply."

Enthusiasts who have been overseas in the last 14 days are being asked to stay away from the five-day Perth Caravan & Camping Show, which opens on March 17. Caravan Industry Association Western Australia said it would continue monitoring all WA Department of Health COVID alerts and Federal Government advice before the show. "If the situation worsens, we may need to postpone or cancel the event to ensure the safety of all patrons, exhibitors, volunteers and staff," it added.

The Queensland government today lifted restrictions on the number of people allowed at camping sites in the Sunshine State. Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said it would mean Easter camping holidays with more friends and more money for tourism towns.

Caravan reported to have burst into flames, leaving a pile of charred remains on Queensland's Ipswich Motorway near Logan Motorway.

Shares in Aspen Group, which operates a chain of lifestyle and holiday parks, closed at a six-month high of $1.24 yesterday.

MARCH 5:
Young boy was fighting for life today after being rescued from a swimming pool at Ulladulla's Kings Point Retreat caravan park in NSW. Police described the four-year-old boy's condition as "critical". The boy was airlifted to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick after receiving CPR at the poolside. Officers attached to South Coast Police District attended and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident. A spokeswoman at the park declined to comment when contacted by Caravanning News.

MARCH 5:
Man, 37, helping police after LandCruiser and Galaxy caravan exploded in flames when allegedly forced off Mansfield-Woods Point Road at Mansfield, Victoria. A couple in their 70s are recovering after being airlifted to hospital.

MARCH 5:
Queensland paramedics reported no injuries after crash involving a vehicle towing caravan on Queensland's Bruce Highway at Morayfield on the outskirts of Brisbane.

More than 260 exhibitors will showcase a huge range of products at the Caravan Camping Holiday Supershow which will be back in full swing from April 13 to 18 at Sydney’s Rosehill Gardens Racecourse.

New camping restrictions will limit Easter camping, including caravans, on North Stradbroke Island in Queensland's Moreton Bay.

MARCH 4:
Victorian firefighters saved the life of their lieutenant who suffered a heart attack while battling a caravan blaze at a Glenlyon house. They used a
defibrillator twice to revive him before he was rushed to hospital. He is now recovering at home. The caravan was badly damaged.

MARCH 3:
The NT Government today announced higher camping fees for its parks and reserves. Changes from July 1 include the introduction of an online booking system and increased camping fees of up to $3.40 a night. There will also be multi-day walking fees for some trails. Parks and Rangers Minister Selena Uibo commented: "Camping and walking fees for Territory parks have not been increased in over 20 years, and increasing fees will help to generate some of the funds required to support our parks."

Stolen Jayco SwanMARCH 3:
Queensland police are hunting thieves who made off with a Jayco camper trailer in Bundaberg. The 2009 Jayco Swan was stolen between February 17 and March 2 from an address on First Avenue, Woodgate. It carried Queensland registration 034UHW. Anyone with information about the theft or location of the caravan should contact police and quote QP2100407100.

Blown tyre on rear of Prado believed to have caused it and caravan under tow to roll on Queensland's Bruce Hwy near Federal south of Gympie yesterday.

MARCH 3:
Grey nomads have been flocking to the Barramundi Discovery Centre & Hatchery Karumba on Queensland's Gulf of Carpentaria. In fact, the attraction is so popular it scooped the Best of the Best Grey Nomad Award after taking out the highly coveted Best Grey Nomad Attraction or Tour category earlier in the evening. The awards were held on the Sunshine Coast last night.

SA police are investigating the theft of a 24 inch LG television, a REDARC inverter and a sleep apnoea machine from a caravan on McQuarrie Street, Murray Bridge.

Queensland police have charged four boys who allegedly attempted to enter vehicles at a caravan park in Brown Street, Normanton.

Traveller treated for minor injuries after singe vehicle towing caravan rollover on southbound lanes of Queensland's Bruce Hwy on Sunshine Coast.
