MAY 31:
NSW's Carrathool Mayor Darryl Jardine has officially opened improvements costing $560,000 at the Hillston Caravan Park.

MAY 31:
Federal Government to spend $106,000 on upgrading Blue Range Hut Camping Ground, about 45km west of Canberra. Another $25,000 will go towards improving the ACT's Cotter Campground entrance.

MAY 29:
Greenways Progress Association at Robe in SA is interested in utilising the oval for a bush camp/RV park, says Mayor Alison Nunan.

MAY 28:
A new clinic at Katherine in the NT is offering COVID vaccinations to grey nomads. "We should be helping them to be protected as well," Dr Richard Budd said.

Victoria's 60-site Woodside Central Caravan Park in the heart of Gippsland, which has been in the same ownership for 23 years, is on the market for $1.24 million.

Shares in holiday and lifestyle parks operator Aspen Group opened at a year-high of $1.27 on the Australian Stock Exchange today.

Caravanners reportedly hitched up their rigs and fled north hours before last night's Victoria "circuit breaker" lockdown became effective. Meanwhile, the state's caravan parks put up the shutters to new arrivals. Grey nomads in Queensland who have been in Victoria in the last 14 days have also been urged to check Victoria's list of updated COVID exposure sites.

SA's Streaky Bay District Council has announced that Tractor Beach Campground on the Eyre Peninsula will be temporarily closed from May 31 for upgrades. No date has been given for its reopening.

MAY 27:
Cunnamulla Police in Queensland's south-west have charged a 27-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy in relation to break and enter offences at a local caravan park. It will be alleged that at about 1am on May 14, the pair trespassed at the park, broke into vehicles and stole items.

Queensland's Sunshine Coast Council will pull in a whopping $18.7 million in fees and charges revenue from caravan parks in 2021-22, councillors will be told at tomorrow's council meeting.

MAY 26:
Work continues on SA's Normanville Foreshore and Jetty Caravan Park draft masterplan, which will be presented for consideration at the June 15 meeting of Yankalilla District Council. The project
has been awarded a further $2.1 million from the government's Open Spaces and Places for People Grant program.

Caravan parks were among thousands of Queensland businesses left without power after a turbine exploded at the Callide Power Station in Biloela yesterday.

MAY 25:
Redland City Council in South East Queensland will call for expressions of interest from community and not-for-profit organisations to provide a short-stay facility for RVs. "It's important to note that such a facility is not expected to unduly impact on current caravan parks and Council will continue to support and work with existing commercial campground and caravan park operators," Mayor Karen Williams said.

Caravan parks and farmers express opposition to Victorian Government decision to throw open 17,000km of riverfront land to public camping.

The BIG4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park at Alice Springs is among businesses to benefit from the largest screen production ever shot in the Northern Territory, according to the Territory's government. Chief Minister Michael Gunner said MaveriX was providing a big boost to Alice Springs businesses, including the caravan park, and priceless publicity from a tourism perspective. The Territory's government has invested a record $1.5 million into the 10-part TV series which follows six junior motocross riders selected for the first intake of the MaveriX academy in Alice Springs.

Mount Augustus Tourist Park in WA's Gascoyne is among locations set to benefit from an upgrade of mobile services at remote tourism destinations in the state. The park hosts Australia's Biggest Barbecue each year.

Central Darling Shire Council in NSW has called for new expressions of interest before May 31 from contractors interested in managing the 46-site White Cliffs Caravan Park.

MAY 25:
Delays in caravan manufacturing because of the COVID epidemic means that thousands of people are awaiting delivery of their new RVs, Caravan and Camping Association Industry of South Australia chief executive Stuart Livingstone told media. "A lot of the growth now is coming from young families," he said.

Tasmanian caravanner from Sandford plans to use some of her $409,000 weekend TattsLotto windfall to buy a new car to tow her RV "and go on a few trips around Australia".

Australian Caravan Club says it poured $24,000 into NSW town of Trangie's economy during its recent six-day Chairman's Muster. Members also raised $1000 for Trangie Hospital Auxiliary and $615 for the local Cancer Support group.

SA's District Council of Yankalilla plans to develop and upgrade the Jetty Caravan Park Normanville on the Fleurieu Peninsula, including providing 23 new cabins.

Police and emergency services attended "an isolated incident" at a Tasmanian holiday park on Cambridge Road at Mornington last night. Police said there was no threat to the community but gave no
further details.

As temperatures slump, Queensland Ambulance today warned campers that most burns are caused by a campfire's hot embers the following morning.

MAY 20:
The City of Bunbury's two-year trial offering free overnight stays for caravanners and other travellers poured a whopping $360,678 into the local economy, the WA council has revealed. It has now decided to make the popular 48-hour facility near the centre of town permanent.

Two mountain bikes worth a total of $6,800 were stolen from a holiday park on Campbell Rd, Cobram, Victoria. Police said they had been left leaning up against a caravan and were not padlocked or secured.

Victoria's Kaniva Caravan Park will undergo a $574,000 facelift after funding from the state government's Regional Infrastructure Fund. Work will include building a new amenities block and a camp kitchen.

MAY 18:
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia has thrown its weight behind National Road Safety week, which runs until May 23. The past 12 months has seen many Aussies towing newly bought campers and caravans, driving new motorhomes or dusting off vehicles that might have been sitting in the shed during the lockdowns. "This week we are taking the time to remind all caravanners and campers, both new and experienced, about how to be safe and courteous on the road," marketing and communications general manager Keelan Howard said. "We are sharing tips about pre-planning your trip, managing fatigue, appropriate use of rest stops including truck rest areas, vehicle preparation, sharing the road with trucks, UHF communication and towing," he added.

Guests at NSW's Hillston Caravan Park are enjoying $560,000 worth of improvements which include two new executive-style cabins, amenities block upgrading, refurbishment of some older cabins and the camp kitchen, thanks to grant from government's Stronger Country Communities Fund.

"Gordonvale businesses are geared to all the needs and requirements that the RV community require and are ready to welcome our new visitors and to encourage them to spend a little time discovering all that our historical country town has to offer," she added.

New laws in Victoria may permit travellers to camp on riverfront Crown land, but a suggestion they might have to register their details on an app is causing discontent.

MAY 14:
The Northern Territory Government will increase camping fees in its national parks for the first time in 20 years, beginning July 1. Current charges will more than double by 2023. Walking fees will also be levied on some "iconic walks" from October this year.

MAY 14:
A man and three teenagers were arrested after a series of stolen vehicle incidents in Townsville, including one in which a caravan and LandCruiser being reversed out of a driveway at Belgium Gardens were commandeered by a masked juvenile. The caravan overturned shortly afterwards as he sped away but the would-be thief escaped in another vehicle. The caravan had been sold and was about to be hauled to its new owner in Victoria.

MAY 13:
Shares in Fleetwood, which operates RV accessories company Camec and Melbourne-based caravan repairs and services company Northern RV, continue to slide, opening at a three-month low of $2.37 today.

MAY 11:
There are reports that a $75 million resort incorporating a five-star 100-site caravan park could be built at Dreamworld on Queensland's Gold Coast, with free access to the theme park.

Port Pirie Regional Council in SA is laying aside $40,000 in its budget so that RV-friendly Port Pirie can set up an RV park at the local football and community sporting club in Wandearah Road.

Organisers of the Victorian Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow have warned of its official Facebook listing being used to set up unauthorised fake events.

MAY 9:
Mums staying at the NRMA Dubbo caravan park tucked into a hearty Mother's Day breakfast today, courtesy its managers who delivered a card, eggs and bacon plus muffins for hubbies to cook them a treat on this special day! Other NRMA parks also provided treats for mums, with the holiday park chain declaring on its Facebook page: "
We say thank you! Happy Mother's Day."

G'day Group plans to install more than 100 new powered campsites at Victor Harbor's McCracken Country Club in South Australia.

MAY 9:
The 62-site Riviera Country Caravan Park at Lakes Entrance in Victoria is on the market for $2.5 million.

More than 200 exhibitors will be at the Brisbane Showgrounds from June 2 to 7 for Queensland Caravan and Camping Supershow, which will feature towing masterclasses and an interactive off-road towing course where visitors can put their skills to the test.

Holiday Haven Lake Conjola in NSW scooped the Gold Award in the ReviewPro Caravan Park of the Year category at the Caravan Industry Association of Australia National Conference. Ocean Beach Tourist Park on the Gold Coast won Silver with BIG4 Ballina Headlands Holiday Park taking out Bronze.

MAY 8:
Ingenia, which operates a chain of lifestyle and holiday parks, reports that its holiday business has rebounded "strongly" in COVID times, with parks near cities showing the highest demand as people travel closer to home and take shorter breaks. Its 28-acre pet-friendly Cairns Coconut Holiday Park particularly benefitted after borders were opened and airlines increased flights to the northern Queensland city, Ingenia said.

MAY 6:
Free safety checks are being offered by Transport for NSW in conjunction with NSW Police to owners of caravans or camper trailers registered in NSW. There are limited spaces available and advance bookings are essential for the checks at the Wauchope (May 18 and 19) and Morisset (May 21 and 22) showgrounds.

MAY 6:
More caravan parks, roadhouses and wayside inns will renovate their facilities and give tourists more reasons to stop during their journey in the NT, according to the Northern Territory Government. It says its Tourism Comeback Plan is set to create jobs and stimulate the local economy.


MAY 5:
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia has secured a $364,500 grant from the Federal Government's Cyber Security Business Connect and Protect Program for its project to boost cybersecurity awareness in the caravan and camping industry.

More than 300 members of the all-female Rolling Solo group - which enjoys roadtrips, tagalongs and camping - will be leaving the NRMA Merimbula Beach Holiday Resort in NSW tomorrow after a successful weeklong get-together.

Queensland's annual six-day Caravan and Camping Show will return to Brisbane Showgrounds from June 2. More than 200 exhibitors reportedly lined up to attend.
