Police in Tasmania have appealed for help in tracing an 88-year-old man who is travelling in a campervan. David Wardrop left home in New Town yesterday morning to head to a campervan rally at Tunbridge near Ross but hasn’t made it there yet. His family is concerned for his welfare. Anyone who has seen him or his white 1994 Mitsubishi Canter campervan, registration DO0820, is urged to call police on 131 444.

BIG4 Inverloch Holiday Park inducted into Hall of Fame at last night's RACV Victorian Tourism Awards after winning gold in the caravan and holiday parks category for three consecutive years. Beechworth Lake Sambell Caravan Park scooped People's Choice gong for Best Accommodation.

Campers and grey nomads warned of recall on some Yamaha generators. Fears fuel tanks on EF2000iS 2018-2019 models could crack and cause fuel to leak, increasing risk of fire which could result in severe injuries or death. Yamaha dealers will replace the fuel tank with one that has been correctly moulded. Meanwhile, owners have been told not to use affected generators until this work is performed.

NOVEMBER 27:
Bundaberg Regional Council in Queensland today gave the thumbs up to a farm-stay camping and glamping development which, it is predicted, will pour $6.5 million into the local economy. Splitters Farm at Sharon will include 40 powered sites and eight glamping tents and hopes to be open for business by June next year. Owners Ashley and Carly Clark, who bought the 65ha property two years ago, said the development aimed to create 52 full-time jobs and work would start immediately. The farm is well known for its work in caring for rescue animals from around the region, currently caring for nearly 200 of all shapes and sizes.

Tuggerah Shores Caravan Park on the NSW Central Coast is on the market. Agent CBRE Hotels, in conjunction with Tourism Brokers, describe its current income as "substantial and consistent". The 74-site park is being sold by private treaty.

An historic pub on Queensland's New England Highway, which offers free camping and is popular with grey nomads, is on the market. It comes with land which, it has been suggested, could be turned into an RV Park. The asking price for the Cooyar Hotel on the Darling Downs is a dollar under $780,000. Advertising material says it has plenty of untapped potential. "The hotel also backs onto a well known camping area which brings in many travellers for meals, drinks and a chat with locals," it adds. The two-storey hotel was rebuilt in 1936 after being burnt down the previous Christmas Eve.

Update, Nov 27: Body, believed to be that of Mr Aslan, located in a creek just over a kilometre from the camping ground where he was last seen.

Police have appealed for help in finding a 25-year-old British man missing from a campsite at Princetown in Victoria. Aslan King was camping with friends on the site off Old Coach Road when he banged his head during a "medical episode" at about 2am. Police said he ran into surrounding bushland near the bridge south of the camp. "His friends conducted a search but have been unable to locate him," they said. It is believed Aslan may be disorientated and become lost in the bush. He was wearing the same clothing pictured except the black jacket. Aslan is described as Caucasian, of medium build with dark short hair. He was wearing trackpants, a light grey tee-shirt with grey hoodie, green Reebok runners and may possibly have blood on his forehead. Anyone who has seen Aslan or with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Warrnambool Police Station on 5560 1333.

As youngsters begin their Schoolies celebrations, SA police will hold voluntary breath testing at caravan and holiday parks at Port Elliot, Goolwa, Middleton and Victor Harbor over the weekend.

Travellers and guests at Edithburgh Caravan Park fled at midnight as a bushfire raged on SA's Yorke Peninsula. Many sought refuge at the local boat ramp while others moved to the safety of the nearby Edithburgh Institute. They returned a few hours later to find caravans and cabins at the Caravan Industry Association of Australia accredited park covered in grime, but no damage to the park.

Tasmania's Brighton Council will now allow caravans to be occupied in residential zones in a bid to help the housing crisis. Under the new by-law, people will have to obtain a licence from the council and adhere to strict rules. "As no caravan parks operate in the municipality there will be no impact on commercial operations," a council report said.

NOVEMBER 20:
Queensland's Whitsunday Regional Council has opened a new trial 48-hour RV Park in Proserpine's main street. It has 18 sites and comes hot on the heels of 72-hour free camping launched at Lake Proserpine last month. The council says feedback will determine whether it will be continued and further developed. "These free camping facilities are action items from the Proserpine Masterplan aimed at leveraging from the valuable drive market by allowing tourists travelling with caravans an area to park and then shop, dine, and enjoy Proserpine and boost the local economy," the council said. The new facility has a water tap and dump point and will be regularly patrolled.

Premises thought to caravan factory amid a myriad of RV manufacturers at Campbellfield in Victoria was not all it seemed to be. In fact, when fire crews went to tackle blaze today at the building in Merola Way they discovered it was in fact hiding a flourishing hydroponic marijuana set up! Police are investigating.

Director Valerie Lyons will resign from holiday and lifestyle parks group Ingenia Communities "to focus on family and personal commitments". "I have been pleased to be able to contribute as a non-executive director over the past three successful years and commend the dedication and professionalism of the high-performing management team," she said. Her resignation will become effective on November 30. Ms Lyons is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and the Remuneration and Nomination Committee.

Mandalay Holiday Resort to receive $125,000 from WA Government's Regional Economic Development Grants program to increase the capacity and quality of caravanning and camping experiences in Denham and the greater Shark Bay area. The park will offer an additional 55 powered caravan and camping sites and modern communal ablutions, games room and a campers' kitchen.

Growth in the lifestyle and holiday business has been a highlight for Ingenia Communities, chairman Jim Hazel said at its annual general meeting. "We benefit from the tailwinds of an ageing population," he said, adding that he was "very pleased" with the year's results. Figures showed Ingenia's earnings before interest and taxes for the year rose 26 percent to $61.5 million.

A new bill introduced to the Victorian Parliament yesterday could mean more camping opportunities along licenced river frontages across the state. It aims to create a new Marine and Coastal Park along the Bass Coast and provide more camping opportunities along Victoria's rivers. Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio said Victorians loved the great outdoors and the legislation would make it easier for them to get out and enjoy it. "Camping is a relaxing, affordable holiday and families will soon be able to pitch a tent in more places along our stunning rivers," she said.

BIG4 parks scored a triple in last night's 2019 South Australian Tourism Awards. BIG4 Hahndorf Resort scooped gold in the Caravan and Holiday Parks category and was also inducted into the Hall of Fame after winning the category for three years in a row. Meanwhile, BIG4 Renmark Riverfront Holiday Park won the Excellence in Accessible Tourism category. They will go on to represent South Australia at the national awards in March 2020.

A petition launched by Darryl King on change.org  a month ago calling on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula Shire to allow pets to stay at bayside camping areas has so far attracted only six signatures.

Ingenia Holidays Cairns Coconut Resort scooped Gold in tonight's 2019 Queensland Tourism Awards 'Caravan & Holiday Parks' category. BIG4 Adventure Whitsunday Resort collected Silver. They will now represent Queensland at the national awards next March.

Caravanners have been urged to be on the lookout for a 74-year-old man missing in central Queensland. Clive Rolph was last seen on October 18 and has not contacted friends or family since. Although his exact whereabouts are unknown, he is believed to be in the Gin Gin or South Burnett area. Police said he is travelling in a blue Toyota Camry with Queensland registration 940VPN and often stays in caravan parks. He is described as Caucasian, 170cm tall, of medium build and bald. Anyone with further information is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444.

NOVEMBER 7:
Construction work has begun on Australia Zoo's $8 million Camp Croc Hunter in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, which will offer everything from tent accommodation to caravan and RV powered sites. Local caravan parks were unhappy after learning that the Queensland State Government had poured $3 million into the $8 million project. "We’re partnering with the private sector to bring forward tourism projects that will create jobs on the Sunshine Coast," Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said at the site yesterday.  The campground is expected to be opened as part of the zoo's 50th anniversary celebrations in 2020.

Grey nomads and other caravanners heading to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park from November next year are being warned to expected a hefty rise in admission fees. It is feared they could soar by up to 52 percent. Parks Australia reports increased costs in managing the park, saying: "We need to be responsible economic managers of the park and ensure we have the funds to maintain Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park into the future."

Mr Benson has lived in Blackall all his life and is well known to grey nomads for his fascinating presentations, dubbing him 'a living treasure'.
