NSW's Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and Transport for NSW joined forces for a program raising awareness of vehicle weights and mass distribution relating to the safe towing of caravans. The joint program was recognised by the Australian Road Safety Conference, winning the Victorian Police award for caravan safety awareness. The prize money was donated to Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service. Between 2016 and 2020, there were 215 casualty crashes involving caravans on NSW roads, resulting in 17 fatalities and 116 serious injuries.

CMCA to host RV Toolbox Talk at its RV park in Bundaberg, Queensland, tomorrow. The free informal event will deliver important information on recreational vehicle travel ... including towing, overtaking and rest areas.

NOV 17:
Two camping areas at Inskip Point near Gympie are to be closed after an outbreak of gastroenteritis. Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service said Sarawak and Sarawak West will be shut from November 19 until December 3 as part of an ongoing strategy to prevent the spread of the illness which causes vomiting, diarrhoea and fever. More than 80 campers who recently stayed at the Sarawak campsite suffered gastro symptoms.

NOV 17:
RV Solutions, which comprises RV accessories company Northern Camec and Melbourne-based caravan repairs and services company Northern RV, has shown "resislience" to the COVID crisis, Fleetwood's AGM heard today. The Perth-based parent company said RV Solutions' business finished FY21 with earnings before tax of $7.8 million on revenue of $72.4 million. Chief executive Bruce Nicholson believed the strong result was driven by a boom in domestic travel brought on by international border closures. "Higher sales of second-hand caravans created strong demand for parts, accessories, repairs and renovation requirements through Northern RV," he said.

Accommodation bookings in the Sunshine State's outback caravan parks increased despite an "extraordinary number" of travellers utilising free camp sites in the region, according to the 2020/21 Outback Queensland Tourism Association's annual report just published. "In the words of one operator: 'We just seem to be getting the same people. I think they’re just going around and around and around'."

Dorset councillors in Tasmania will decide at tomorrow's council meeting whether to introduce honesty-box camping fees at Derby Park. A report says that if successful it could then be extended to the camping at the other end of town.
"The proposed model relies on the goodwill of the campers and it should be noted that the campers add to the vibe and feel of Derby and the importance of the young families to the growth of future visitation should not be understated," it adds.

NOV 14:
Oasis Tourist Park at Darwin crowned top park in the Caravan and Holiday Parks category of the 2021 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards.
“The awards recognise and encourage tourism businesses and individuals that strive to excel in every area of their operation," Tourism and Hospitality Minister Natasha Fyles said.

NOV 14:
Kimberleyland Waterfront Holiday Park scooped gold in the Western Australian Tourism Awards' Caravan & Holiday Parks category. Cheynes Beach Caravan Park won silver and RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort received bronze. Kimberleyland will now compete in the Australian Tourism Awards on Queensland's Sunshine Coast next March.

Caravan gas explosionNOV 13:
Victoria's Warrandyte Fire Brigade has urged caravanners to frequently check their onboard gas systems. This follows an explosion involving a caravan fridge which had been turned on so it would cool down overnight before the owners set off the next day. "Unfortunately, there was a slow gas leak and the fridge's pilot light ignited a fireball inside the caravan," the brigade said. "Luckily the 'van was still at home. Imagine how much worse it could have been if they were on the road or even sleeping in it at the time." The caravan's pop-top was blown open and windows damaged.

NOV 13:
Queensland's Bruce Highway between Townsville and Ingham closed after caravan erupted in flames. Paramedics called to scene at Crystal Creek but there were no reports of injuries.

Julia Creek Caravan Park members with their Queensland Tourism Awards gongNOV 13:
Julia Creek Caravan Park, well known for its artesian bathhouses and bush dinners, won a major gong at last night's Queensland Tourism Awards. The small park in outback Queensland scooped gold in the Caravan and Holiday Park category. "We are proud of the chances that we took, most notably our artesian bath experience and bush dinner program," the park said in a Facebook posting. "But, most of all, we are so appreciative to all staff, councillors, contractors and volunteers that make the Julia Creek Caravan Park a great part of the world."

Australian Caravan Club announces that its annual Chairmans Muster will be renamed either State or Territory Muster so that as many directors as possible can attend and meet members.

NOV 12:
Apollo Tourism and Leisure, manufacturers of Coromal and Windsor caravans and renter of motorhomes, received $7,147,100 in JobKeeper payments during the last two financial years, shareholders have been told.

Holiday Park home for saleNOV 12:
A two-bedroom relocatable home at a NSW caravan and holiday park is up for sale ... for a cool $750,000. The Suffolk Beachfront Holiday Park property at Byron Bay is being marketed through Katrina Beohm Real Estate. The land on which it stands is not for sale. "Rarely does an opportunity like this become available," says the agent, adding that it is "perfect for your own little holiday paradise all year round".

NOV 12:
Australians who have recently bought a new caravan are being urged to take part in an Australian Competition and Consumer Commission survey about possible consumer law issues in the industry. The ACCC has received more than 1300 reports about the industry over the past five years. Common complaints include retailers selling new caravans not meeting consumer guarantees, and faults leading to disputes between manufacturers and retailers about which party is responsible for the cost of repairs.

Caravan in floods  NOV 12:
Two caravanners and their dog scrambled through the windows of their caravan minutes before it was swept away and wrecked in raging floodwaters at a NSW caravan park. Fifteen other 'vans were moved to safety from the park at Bingara, north-west of Tamworth.
One camper wrote on Facebook: "The river came up really really fast."

NSW Government to transfer management and ownership of the Menindee Lakes Caravan Park, which this year underwent a $750,000 facelift, to the region's traditional owners in a landmark agreement for the Far West.

Ingenia has acquired award-winning BIG4 Beacon Resort on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula in an off-market $37 million deal. Owner and operator Lorraine Golightly, said the park had been part of her family for over half a century. "The decision to sell has not been taken lightly," she added.

Camp hostsNOV 5:
WA's City of Albany is looking for camp hosts for the peak season from November to April (including Easter). Positions are available at campgrounds at Cosy Corner, Torbay Inlet, Normans Beach, East Bay and Betty's Beach. Tasks will include greeting arrivals, providing orientation, explaining rules, minor maintenance and monitoring the site. In a Facebook posting, the council said the positions "will not come without benefits". "You enjoy a free campsite for two to six weeks and wake up to the sound of the ocean surrounded by nature," it explained. "You can volunteer at more than one site over this period and $50 in vouchers will be provided per week for petrol, food and gas as required."

Mareeba Shire Council in north Queensland is considering plans for a Tablelands low-budget camping ground for travellers such as retirees, backpackers and local residents. RVs will have to be fully self-contained.

Reflections Holiday Parks Seal Rocks named as finalist in Caravan and Holiday Parks category of New South Wales Tourism Awards for 2021. The 2020 awards did not take place due to COVID-19 so the current awards cover a 24-month period ending June 2021.

Ken is also the principal and licensee of Caravan Park Brokers NSW (formerly Ken Buckley Brokers), specialising in the sale and leasing of caravan parks, manufactured home estates and trade businesses.

NOV 3:
High winds sent a tree crashing down on to a caravan at Blue Lake Caravan Park in Mount Gambier, South Australia. No one was injured.

NOV 2:
More than 90 percent of respondents to a Gladstone Regional Council survey in Queensland said there was a need for RV parking in the region, with 52 percent opting for overnights. Results for individual locations were Gladstone (75 percent), Agnes Water (70 percent) Seventeen Seventy (57 percent), Tannum Sands and Calliope (50 percent). Sixty-two percent of people believed the council should provide the parking.
