Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park hailOCTOBER 27:
Queen Mary Falls Caravan Park at Killarney, Queensland, has been forced to close its popular eatery after a ferocious hail storm left a trail of damage. In a Facebook posting, the park has thanked locals who waded in to help in the aftermath. "We would like to give a huge hug to all those who have helped in the clean up and offered their best wishes," it said. "It's amazing how people all band around to help when things get tough. So very humbling. To all our guests, the Warwick SES, the local police, all our friends and family, our neighbours, fellow business owners and the general public ... thank you. OCTOBER 25:
Apollo Tourism and Leisure chairman Stephen Lonie has spoken to shareholders about his company's recent takeover of Fleetwood's Coromal and Windsor caravans business. His global company acquired the loss-making brands and their associated intellectual property for $1 million. Speaking at yesterday's AGM, he told shareholders: "The acquisition brings consolidation to an incredibly fragmented caravan industry within Australia and allows the company to leverage the existing manufacturing capacity in its Brisbane facility to increase production numbers."

Diamond caravanOCTOBER 24:
FAMILY-owned Diamond Caravans has ceased trading and is in liquidation. Creditors met yesterday and decided the Victorian company should be wound up. Shane Leslie Deane and Nicholas Giasoumi were appointed liquidators. They were not available for comment today. The manufacturer's website has been taken down and telephones disconnected. Diamond had over 10 years experience in the caravan industry and described their lightweight aluminium caravans as having the 'Diamond Touch'. It had a network of dealers and in a recent Twitter message proclaimed: "You feel so much better when you have happy customers."

OCTOBER 24:
Coconut Glen Van Park at Townsville, Queensland, is on the market. It is being sold by expressions of interest which close on November 22. It is being offered tas a going concern but advertising material points out it is "ideally suited to an industrial redevelopment and/or subdivision with medium impact industrial zoning".

Billabong caravanOCTOBER 24:
Billabong Custom Caravans has been placed in administration. The shock news comes as the Victorian-based company was advertising for experienced caravan workers to join its team. A creditors' meeting will be held at the offices of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in Melbourne on October 31. Founded 12 years ago and with nationwide outlets, the company manufactures quality, handmade custom caravans at its Campbellfield factory and more recently appeared to be concentrating on the family market.

Bundaberg signOCTOBER 20:
Caravanners are already heading for Queensland's Rum City for their state rally. Up to 200 RVs will converge on Bundaberg's recreational precinct for the seven-day Caravan Clubs of Queensland event which kicks off on Monday. Secretary Barbara Rutherford said travellers had a jam-packed schedule ahead. Bundaberg Mayor Jack Dempsey said the rally would provide a huge economic stimulus to the region. The club estimates that since its formation in 2011, members have poured around $7.5 million into local economies.

OCTOBER 19:
Aspen today announced that its acquisition of Highway 1 Caravan & Tourist Park at Bolivar in SA has now been settled. "Integration of the business is underway in readiness for the Christmas holiday trading period," it said in a statement.

OCTOBER 19:
Police charge 76-year-old man over alleged indecent assault of two boys aged 8 and 11 at Upper Coomera caravan park on Gold Coast. Will appear at Southport Magistrates Court on November 6 on multiple charges.

Tweed Coast Holiday Parks Kingscliff Beach has been named as 'Best of the Best' in the NSW caravan and camping industry's 2018 Awards of Excellence.

OCTOBER 16:
Accident involving caravan and car resulted in traffic chaos on NSW's northbound M1 Pacific Motorway approaching the Pacific Hwy. Caravan rolled but no reports of injuries.

OCTOBER 16:
Passers-by rescued two caravanners in their 50s from their Nissan Patrol after it rolled on the Moe-Rawson Road in Victoria today. Their caravan clipped the roadside safety barrier about 15km north of Moe but stayed upright. A woman was taken to hospital with facial injuries. It is understood the couple from Canberra was travelling with three other caravans. Police have suggested the wet weather could have been a contributory cause of the accident.

CoromalsOCTOBER 16:
Apollo Tourism and Leisure acquired the loss-making Coromal and Windsor caravan brands from Fleetwood Corp because it was a "compelling purchase", the Brisbane-based global company told investors in a presentation at yesterday's Morgans Annual Queensland Conference.

OCTOBER 15:
Caravan park at Narooma in NSW evacuated this afternoon after gases leaked from local sewage treatment plant. Police set up exclusion zone around Field Street.

OCTOBER 15
Grey nomad Michael Harcla, reportedly missing between Longreach to Mt Isa since September 30, has been located safe and well, Queensland police said today. No further details available.

Angry locals stage protest rally in bid to block plans to allow free overnight camping for RVs at Gosling Creek in Orange, NSW.

Stolen tractorOCTOBER 13:
Police in SA are seeking information after a tractor was stolen from the Berri Riverside Caravan Park. They said the thieves started up a orange Kubota BZ2360 tractor (pictured) with a bucket and drove off. The tractor bearing SA registration plates S19SYR is likely to have been loaded onto either a truck or trailer nearby. Anyone with information on the theft or the location of the tractor is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Berri Riverside Holiday Park, Port Vincent Foreshore Caravan Park, Discovery Parks - Barossa, BIG4 Hahndorf Resort, Adelaide BIG4 Renmark Riverfront Holiday Park and BIG4 West Beach Parks have all been named as finalists in the 2018 South Australian Tourism Awards.

OCTOBER 13:
The Australian Caravan Club's first ever annual National Muster to be held in Western Australia is underway at the Ocean Beach Holiday Park in Denmark. It will run until October 21. ACC chairman Craig Humphrey described it as "a milestone" for the club. "This is a significant point in the ACC's growth as we view WA as a major focus of the future of the club's growth," he said.

Lazy Acres caravan park robbery cctcOCTOBER 12:
Detectives investigating an armed robbery at a Queensland caravan park have released CCTV footage of the crime. A man thought to be in his 20s produced a handgun after being disturbed stealing cash in the reception area of the Fraser Coast's Lazy Acres caravan park in Torquay earlier this week. No one was physically injured and the bandit is believed to have escaped in a blue Holden Barina. He is described as Caucasian in appearance, about 170cm tall with a skinny build and dark hair. Stolen bicycle

OCTOBER 12:
Travellers have been warned to take extra care of their property when visiting NSW's Manning-Great Lakes caravan parks and camping areas. This follows the theft of a "specialised" and distinctive bright orange bicycle from a caravan park at Tuncurry. "Police remind the community and those visiting the Manning-Great Lakes area to properly secure valuables, especially at camp sites," a spokesperson said. They are seeking public assistance in locating the bicycle and anyone with information is urged to call Forster Police Station on 02 6555 1299 or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.

OCTOBER 12:
Campgrounds east of Minnipa Yardea Road and north of Pine Lodge Track in SA's Gawler Ranges National Park will be closed between October 27 and November 2 for "feral animal control", Wudinna District Council warned today.

OCTOBER 12:
Ingenia, which operates a chain of lifestyle and holiday parks, now owns over 800 rental cabins. And in a presentation to the annual Morgans Queensland Conference yesterday it revealed that in the past 18 months 43 flat-packed cabins from China had been installed at Brisbane's Durack and Chambers Pines parks. New rental cabins provided "attractive returns" with limited capital outlay, it said. Ingenia Holidays provide a variety of caravan, camping and cabin accommodation spread throughout coastal and inland New South Wales and Queensland.

Missing grey nomad Michael HarclaOCTOBER 11:
Police have appealed for help in tracing a missing grey nomad in Queensland. Michael Harcla (pictured) last contacted his family on September 30 saying he intended travelling from Longreach to Mt Isa in his Jayco motorhome. Police say there are concerns for his welfare because not keeping in touch with relatives was out of character for the 58-year-old traveller. Mr Harcla is described as caucasian in appearance, approximately 175cm tall, of solid build with brown hair and brown eyes. He is thought to be travelling in a 2010 Jayco Conquest motorhome (similar to that pictured) with Queensland registration 172LYT. Anyone who sees Mr Harcla or has any information is urged to contact police on 131 444 or provide information by clicking here and using the online form.

OCTOBER 11:
Off Road Camping Accessories trading as Ultimate Campers has gone into voluntary administration. The NSW company said in a statement: "The business has been placed into a 'standstill' position operationally to give it the best prospects of finding suitable investors for the business. It is the primary focus of the administrators to seek offers from suitable interested parties." Ultimate Campers is a well-established iconic and highly-awarded Australian manufacturer of off-road camper trailers. It has until recently employed 50 people and produced between 100 to 120 new camper trailers a year.

Kennett River Holiday Park

OCTOBER 11:
Guests at a Victorian caravan park have been warned of a potential health risk. Travellers have been told to avoid contact or consumption of water at the Kennett River Holiday Park on the Great Ocean Road after an outbreak of suspected gastrointestinal illness (gastro). Environmental health officers are investigating claims of guests being struck down with the illness. People at the park are being provided with alternate sources of water and portable toilets.

OCTOBER 10:
Ezytrail Camper Trailers has issued a voluntary recall of some MK1 models. According to the ACCC site, it is feared welding could fail and cause the drawbar to break on the Albany, Stirling, Lincoln and Portland ranges. The recall does not apply to any Mark 2 models. "There have been a very small amount of reported cases of the chassis breaking between the tool boxes and the camper body while fully loaded in harsh off-road conditions," Ezytrail says on its website. Owners are urged to log on to www.ezytrailcampertrailers.com.au/warranty and enter their camper's unique chassis number into the recall search bar to see if their camper trailer is affected.

A whopping 92 percent of people taking part in a poll by Goondiwindi's local newspaper in Queensland have voted in favour of free overnight camping for RVs being continued at Redmond Park.

Stolen caravan, HerbertonOCTOBER 9:
A Queensland family has been dealt a double blow after heartless thieves made off with its caravan. The crooks stole the family's beloved caravan from Herberton in the state's far north overnight. Police are now searching for the 1980 Evernew pop-top, rego 469QYB. Daughter Tracey Drew described the thieves as "lowlife". It's something we don't need after losing Dad a few months ago," she said. Retreat caravan owners tuck into a buffet at their recent rally on the Fraser CoastOCTOBER 9:
When it comes to supporting businesses in the bush, tourists on two wheels far outspend grey nomads, it has been claimed. The assertion comes from the organiser of a charity event to raise money for drought relief, which has had to be cancelled this weekend ... due to the rain. The Ride Against Drought at Oakey west of Toowoomba in Queensland has been rescheduled for October 27. Announcing the news, organiser Mark Hinchcliffe told media: "Queensland Tourism estimates grey nomads – people in caravans – spend about $40 a day in country areas, which is good. But they bring their own groceries and they don't need a lot because they're self-contained and often stay in free camping areas, whereas the motorcycle tourists arrive in town carrying nothing. They need accommodation, food, drinks, fuel, everything along the way … they spend about $150 a day," he said. His comment comes as owners of Retreat caravans reported spending a whopping $109,000 during their recent week-long rally on Queensland's Fraser Coast. OCTOBER 8:
Police were today hunting a gunman who held up staff at a Hervey Bay caravan park in Queensland. The armed robber in his twenties burst into reception at the Lazy Acres holiday park in Torquay yesterday and brandished a hand gun. He snatched an undisclosed amount of cash and escaped in a blue Holden Barina. No one was injured.

Harry and MeghanOCTOBER 8:
A royal visit has prompted one of Australia's leading caravan and camping guides to update its publications. "In light of the royals Harry and Meghan’s visit to Fraser Island, we thought it was high time to add more campsites to the app and Camp 10," Camps Australia Wide publishers Heatley and Michelle Gilmore said. "In addition to Cathedrals on Fraser listed in Caravan Parks 4, we now have four more campgrounds and six dump points listed!" The royal couple will arrive on the world's largest sand island, off the Queensland coast, on October 22 and be met by its traditional owners, the Butchulla People. The Duke and Duchess will then travel to one of the island's iconic lakes followed by a beach where they will learn about the island's history.

About a thousand members of the Campervan and Motorhome Club have set up at the Gunnedah Showground complex in NSW for their 33rd annual national eight-day rally and annual general meeting.

Lotto winOCTOBER 6:
A grey nomad couple has scooped $200,000 in NSW's Lucky Lotteries Mega Jackpot. Told of their windfall, the roving winners ‒ who hail from New England but did not want to be identified ‒ commented: "We won't be eating mince in the caravan tonight. We'll be pigging out for sure!" They plan to buy a new 4WD, a diesel heater and satellite TV for their caravan.

OCTOBER 5:
Bunbury City Council in WA inviting feedback on plans for a two-year trial of a free camping area for grey nomads. "We are keen to hear any encouragement or concerns community members may have about the project," Mayor Gary Brennan told media. Comments will be received until October 9.

OCTOBER 5:
A soldier has come out with all guns blazing over inconsiderate caravanners on Queensland's major highway. Private Scott Haskard regularly drives huge army trucks along the Bruce Hwy between Brisbane and Townsville and says "ignorant" caravanners prove challenging. "Just a few days ago one was doing 60km/h in a 100 zone and we couldn't pass ... then it sped up to 105km/h," he says in national transport newspaper Big Rigs.

Missing caravannerOCTOBER 4:
Northern Territory Police have appealed for help in tracing a missing 67-year-old caravanner. Alex Rosenberg was last seen on the Leliyn Track at Edith Falls campground on Sunday, August 19. His Elite caravan and tow vehicle were still located at his campsite and was in "a neat and tidy condition", police said. It is known he completed a short walk on the Leliyn Track (Edith Falls Loop Track) to the top rock pools of Edith Falls the day before. Mr Rosenberg spent part of early Saturday evening with other campers at a nearby site where he outlined his plan to walk to Sweetwater Pool, about an 8km round trip, early the next morning. Extensive land and underwater searches have failed to locate Mr Rosenberg or any items he may have had with him at the time of his disappearance. He is described as being just under 6ft tall with fair complexion, grey hair and of lean to medium build. It is believed he may have been wearing a khaki shirt, black/khaki hat, black shorts, and Salomon hiking boots. He also had a small black or blue day pack or Camelbak and a walking pole. It is believed he had a Samsung Edge mobile phone and a Samsung Galaxy Tablet in his possession. Police requested that anyone who has seen any of the items or saw Mr Rosenberg on August 19 to contact them on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

OCTOBER 3:
Owners of Retreat caravans raised more than $14,000 for the Queensland Cancer Council during their recent rally, it was revealed today. Eighty-six caravans descended on Maryborough Showgrounds for the event, their owners spending a whopping $100,000-plus at local businesses.

Melbourne LeisurefestOCTOBER 2:
Celebrity vet Dr Katrina Warren will speak on travelling with pets while one of Australia's most recognised cricket identities turned fishing fanatic Merv Hughes will talk all about fishing and caravanning when they appear at the four-day Melbourne Leisurefest, which opens this Thursday. More than 220 exhibitors will be showcasing what the caravanning and camping industry has to offer. Caravan Industry Association Victoria chief executive Rob Lucas said that with 7.1 million Australians staying in a caravan holiday park, camping ground or national park in the last two years it was a growing industry. "And the Melbourne Leisurefest is where memories can begin," he added.

Overturned caravanOCTOBER 2:
Police have praised travellers who stopped to help an injured 69-year-old caravanner after a crash on a SA highway. Meanwhile, they are investigating yesterday's accident on the Yorke Highway at Sandilands. Police said the caravanner's Toyota Prado collided with a safety barrier, causing the caravan to overturn. The highway was blocked for nearly two hours between Sandy Church Road and St Vincent Highway while emergency services cleared the road. The Prado's driver, from Coobowie, was taken to the Ardrossan Hospital with minor injuries. "Police wish to thank members of the public who stopped at the scene and provided assistance to the driver and emergency service members," a police spokesperson said.

OCTOBER 2:
Cairns Property Crime Squad has charged a 17-year-old girl after she allegedly drove a stolen car at a police vehicle inside a Pease Street caravan park on September 28. The rear of the police car was extensively damaged and required towing from the scene. No officers were injured.

OCTOBER 1:
The Ingenia Communities Group will continue strategies designed to increase earnings, profits and market share within the seniors rental property and tourism industry, it says in its annual report published today. It hoped the group would continue increasing revenue by investing in new cabins and facilities across the rental and tourism business. "The group will continue to regularly assess the performance of its existing assets and market opportunities and to make divestments and acquisitions where superior longer-term returns are available," chairman Jim Hazel (pictured) said. Ingenia earned an underlying profit of $36.8 million in the last financial year, an increase of 56 percent on the previous financial year. Its operating cash flows of $47.2 million compared with $30.3 million last year.

Grey nomad in 80s recovering after his vehicle towing caravan rolled on Queensland's D'Aguilar Highway. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries after last night's accident south of Nanango.
