OCT 30:
The 15-site, $10-a-night TYTO Self-Contained RV Park at the Ingham Information Centre in Queensland has reopened until November 30.

OCT 28:
Since launching in June, nearly 700 people have attended Royal Automobile Club free caravan safety lessons in Perth and regional WA. "If you're interested in attending, we would encourage people to book your session as soon as you can," communications manager Rhys Heron told Caravanning News.

In its annual report, holiday and lifestyle parks operator Aspen is predicting a "subdued" operating environment over the next 12 months because of COVID.

OCT 27:
Caravan Industry Victoria today confirmed it will postpone the 2021 Victorian Caravan, Camping & Touring Supershow, scheduled for next February, to a later date in 2021. "We must comply with the current Victorian Government restrictions to keep everyone safe, no matter the effect it has on consumers, business and livelihoods," chief executive Rob Lucas said . "We are committed to supporting our industry and providing events to help business connect with consumers in a new COVID normal, but we are just lacking the support and leadership by the Victorian State Government to allow us to make the strategic moves required to deliver consumers the State’s biggest caravan and camping show."

Dungog Shire Council in NSW has announced that caravan and camping facilities at the Dungog Showground will be resumed, but with camping fees being collected electronically.

Victoria's Central Goldfields Shire Council has agreed to re-register Talbot Caravan Park, a major fundraiser for the Talbot Football Netball Club, for the next three years following major improvements.

OCT 26:
Clean-up continuing today after 60-second "mini tornado" wrecked 18 caravans at NSW's Country Acres Caravan Park in Singleton.

OCT 26:
Two caravanners had a lucky escape when their twin-axle caravan rolled on Queensland's Bruce Highway today. Their Pajero remained upright but the Genesis caravan ended up on its side, blocking the highway's southbound lanes at Pomona. It is believed the driver lost control of his rig when it began fishtailing after passing a truck. Nobody was hurt.

Police have used new "unexplained wealth" laws to seize a suspected stolen Roadstar caravan from a property at Bateman's Bay in NSW.

OCT 25:
Whitsunday Regional councillors in Queensland have voted unanimously to reject a request from Bowen Palms Caravan Park to waive new infrastructive charges after the park converted eight caravan sites to cabins. "The development does not qualify for dispensation under the council's economic development incentives policy," the council said.

Tumbarumba Caravan Park in southern NSW partially evacuated as heavy rains cause local creek to burst its banks.

Feral campers evicted and fined after caravanners complained of fireworks and fighting at Hat Head National Park campground on NSW's mid-north coast near South West Rocks.

Queensland's Livingstone Shire Council is looking for "enthusiastic and motivated" managers to run its 67-site Keppel Sands Caravan Park on the Capricorn Coast.

Brisbane-based Kedron, one
of Australia's most reputable caravan manufacturers, is hopping mad after discovering that a copycat Chinese company is using its brand name.

National Parks and Wildlife Service is today conducting a reduction burn at Tapitallee Nature Reserve in NSW's Shoalhaven area between Bangalee Scout Camp access road, the caravan park access road and Koloona Drive.

OCT 22:
Australia's consumer watchdog has dealt with 214 bogus online caravan sales this year in which potential buyers have lost more than $129,000. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has now warned people to always arrange physical inspections before handing over cash for "too good to be true" deals.

Police in South Australia are investigating the theft of a camper trailer from Tailem Bend. The Jayco Swan, rego number S784TBF, disappeared from a front yard of a Bolton Place property between 6.30pm on October 19 and 7.30am the following morning. Anyone with information is urged to contact

Australia's largest manufacturer of RVs Jayco has told ABC radio that all solar panels fixed to caravan roofs should be firmly screwed or bolted. The advice follows a terrible road accident in which three people were killed when a caravan's solar panel came adrift on a Tasmanian highway.

OCT 20:
WA's recent Mandurah Boat, Caravan, 4WD and Camping Show attendance up 25 percent over last year, with 20,552 visitors and sales reportedly "off the Richter scale".

OCT 20:
Caravan Industry Association of Australia research indicates that 79 percent of caravanners and campers are at least "fairly confident" of hitting the road during the coming months as border restrictions are lifted.

OCT 19:
Company members today decided to put the Sundowner Tiona Caravan Park and its conference centre at Pacific Palms in NSW into liquidation.  Meanwhile, Tiona Holiday Park general manager Margaret Shannon has reassured guests that her park is not in liquidation. "A liquidation notice was issued by the company members of the company "Sundowner Tiona Holiday Park Pty Ltd" to liquidate the company, and the associated trading names of "The Palms Conference Centre" and "Tiona Palms Holiday Park", she said. "This company sold the holiday park in December, 2019, to the current owners, who are a completely separate entity trading as Tiona Holiday Park."

The homeless, vandals and illegal dumpers are being blamed for the proposed permanent closure of popular camping grounds at Lilydale and Copmanhurst in northern New South Wales.

OCT 17:
Woman, 57, dies after her campervan rolled and struck her while she was setting up camp at Coopernook Forest Campground at Lansdowne Forest north of Taree in NSW. Police have appealed for witnesses.

OCT 17:
COVID-19 and its rules are a source of frustration and the hardest part of operating a caravan park, according to Victoria's Mitta Mitta Caravan Park. Guests arriving from today are being handed a printed sheet outlining state laws which affect their stay. In a social media posting, the park warns that it was expecting spot checks from police and authorised officers. "The park cannot afford $10,000 fines and we don't want guests fined either," it added.

OCT 17:
Ingenia reports that forward bookings at its holiday parks for the next 12 months are more than 50 percent higher compared to October last year. The eventual opening of Queensland and Victorian borders is also expected to drive further strong demand on NSW's South and Far North coasts and tropical Queensland, it adds.

Queensland's Townsville City Council planning and development committee has given the thumbs-up to an application for a new tourist park Balgal Beach. It will go before the full council on October 27.

OCT 16:
South Australia's Onkaparinga City councillor and avid caravanner Martin Bray claims a towing hitch pin bought from ALDI failed while he was towing along the unsealed Strzelecki Track towards Queensland. Consumer Affairs are investigating. Meanwhile, ALDI Australia told Caravanning News today that it investigated all complaints thoroughly to ensure current and future products met its high quality standards. "We can confirm that this is an isolated incident," the spokesperson said.

OCT 16:
Aspen reports it has started to "pivot back" to more profitable short-stay business at its holiday and mixed-use parks as summer approaches and state borders begin to reopen. In its report for the first quarter ending September 30, it says its three NSW parks ‒ Barlings Beach, Tween Waters and Koala Shores ‒ are almost fully booked for the peak summer period from late December to late January "at average prices above the previous corresponding period". Adelaide Caravan Park had performed "poorly" and was Aspen's only property to experience a fall in net operating income in the quarter. Aspen's revenue in the quarter was $8.79m., up eight percent while operating profit was up 66 percent to $2.85m.

Grey nomad, 75, died after his ute towing a caravan lost control while a overtaking road train on the Barkly Hwy near Mount Isa and crashed into a tree. Police said he was travelling alone.

OCT 15:
Fleetwood's RV Solutions has taken a pounding due to the Coronavirus epidemic. In a letter to shareholders today the company said: "With the domestic travel industry virtually shut down on the east coast, and in New Zealand, customer demand for our products and services has been severely curtailed. Further, our factories and distribution centres in Victoria were forced to close ... not once, but twice." It reassured shareholders that the business would quickly recover after lockdown restrictions are eased.

NSW government expected to announce "significant" reward for information on 2005 murder of German backpacker Simone Strobel who was last seen at Lismore Tourist Caravan Park.

Owner of Euroa Caravan Park Kristy Hourigan, whose Victorian park stands on council land, has defended her right to nominate as a Seven Creeks Ward candidate in the upcoming Strathbogie Shire Council elections.

Staff at Potato Point's Beachcomber Holiday Park on NSW's South Coast leapt into action and tackled a caravan blaze before fire crews arrived. But despite their brave efforts with a pump and hose the caravan was destroyed. Two people in the 'van escaped unharmed.

Travellers arriving at the BIG4 South Durras Holiday Park in a New Age caravan before December 18 will receive a 30 percent discount on site fees after the NSW park forged a partnership with the popular RV manufacturer.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia welcomes Budget's Building Better Regions Fund which includes $100 million for tourism-related infrastructure projects. "This funding program will be ideal for caravan parks and regional businesses looking to undertake CapEx projects," the association said. "This year's Federal Budget was a vital one for Australians and the caravan and camping industry, as the government aims to navigate the economy through a recession and into a post-COVID world."

Nominations for a place on the Caravanning Industry Association of Australia's board close tomorrow.

OCT 5:
A caravan and tow vehicle erupted in flames after rolling on Queensland's Gregory Development Road about 100km south of Charters Towers this afternoon. Two people airlift to Townsville hospital. Queensland Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the fire spread to adjoining grassland.

Caravanners report that free camping areas in NSW's north-west are "chock-a-block".

OCT 4:
Rider, 31, died after his motorcycle and a 4WD towing a caravan collided on Killarney Gap Road at Narrabri in NSW's north-west. Investigations into yesterday's crash are continuing.

OCT 2:
Police are hunting gang of four they believe is responsible for thefts from caravans on Victoria's Surf Coast. "With the influx of 80 odd thousand people to the Surf Coast police service area we are seeing an increase in valuables being stolen from our caravan parks - particularly Lorne and Anglesea," Lorne police station manager Sergeant John Parish said. "What we know is that a group of four people aged 18 to 21 appear responsible and are stealing from unlocked cars, caravans and things of value left under annexes. Anyone with information or sees anything suspicious is urged to contact police.
