WINNEBAGO Australia reached a new milestone with the launch of its first
Australian-built caravan.
The 19ft, three-berth slide-out Burke joins an all-Australian range of
Winnebago motorhomes and campervans and is the first of four
Australian-built caravans planned for this year.
Priced at $66,490 and weighing in at 2000kg tare with a 400kg payload, the
model boasts an impressive array of standard features including 150W solar
panels, 2.5kg washing machine, 9kg gas bottles and 164lt water storage.
Winnebago Australia chief executive Luke Trouchet said the Burke, named
after Queensland’s famous river, was a "landmark arrival" for the company,
which officially launched in Australia early last year with a combined
fleet of Australian-built motorhomes and campervans together with US-built
caravans.
"When Australian's hear 'Winnebago' they think of the good life,
travelling on the road," Mr Trouchet said.
"Now they can explore our amazing country in their choice of proudly
Australian-built Winnebago motorhomes, campervans or caravans."
The Burke is packed full of liveable features including a 190L
fridge/freezer, external picnic table, 32-inch HD TV and an expanded
living space with a comfortable sofa bed.
It also launches Winnebago's all-new interior design, furnishings and
colour scheme.
Dressed up by the iconic red 'Winnebago' logos prominent on the exterior,
the Burke is a completely modern haven for travellers, with a designer
interior featuring crisp whites, ash-grey wood and bold geometric soft
furnishings.
Large windows above the kitchen area and behind the lounge lend an airy
apartment-style feel to the spacious interior featuring a fixed queen bed,
convertible day-lounge and fully equipped kitchen.
The striking hotel-worthy ensuite is light-filled and boasts plenty of
cupboard space.
"Our company has a long history designing, building and catering to the
retail and rental RV market," Mr Trouchet said.
He felt sure Winnebago's 2016 range of caravans would be welcomed by
caravan enthusiasts.
"Combining our knowledge from years of Australian RV production, our team
has taken the best features to create a caravan made specifically for the
Australian market."
The most recent National Visitors Survey by Tourism Research Australia
indicated seven percent growth in both the 'drive holiday’ market and
caravanning and camping as the accommodation choice of travellers.
Meanwhile, the Caravan Industry Association of Australia reported
continued growth production of caravans in 2015, with an estimated 21,300
caravans and motorhomes produced in Australia in 2014.
Soon to follow in the path of the Burke, the 22ft four-berth Winnebago
Mossman is named after one of Australia's most famous natural
wonders, Mossman Gorge.
It is expected to be launched at the Queensland Caravan, RV & Holiday
Supershow in June.
