CALLIOPE RIVER

SOMETIMES you discover a gem of a rest area ... and Calliope River is one of them! Situated 7km north of Calliope on the Bruce Highway in Queensland, this two-tiered site offers picturesque riverside or bush camping and good fishing. Access is over the river bridge which has a 5-tonne limit. Toilets. Rubbish bins. Suitable for large rigs. TV and mobile telephone reception good. Sign warns of crocodiles in area. Maximum stay 48 hours. Warning: Can be very noisy at weekends when local youngsters gather on the area for Saturday night revels!
