Steady increase in domestic travel

CamperMate unveils new website

Pitched for the night Have your say

CAMPERMATE, launched 11 years ago out of a love for independent travel and the outdoors, has unveiled a revamped website and marketing campaign just in time for the first summer holidays since COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

It will help tens of thousands of Australians and New Zealanders taking a road-trip these holidays by connecting them with tourism operators such as holiday parks, accommodation and attractions and providing them with handy tips, guides, deals and recommendations.

"Based on the trends we're seeing, we would expect this to be the best summer domestically in three years," chief operating officer Matthew Johnson said.

"That's good news for tourism operators and good news for holidaymakers."

Mr Johnson said activity on the CamperMate platform was up three times on previous years, with the most popular coastal destinations being NSW’s North and South coasts, the Sunshine Coast, Hunter Valley and tropical North Queensland.

"We’ve seen a steady increase in domestic travel from Easter, the first school holiday period since border restrictions were lifted."

CamperMate is best-known for its travel companion app for holidaymakers and adventure seekers, its new website marking a broadening of the company's offering to support more people in more places.

Mr Johnson claimed his company was Australia's favourite free travel planning platform.

"We're also one of the best ways for people to find things to see and do on their route," he said.

"Over the years we've noticed an increase in the number of people using their desktop computer to pre-plan trips and it made sense for us to invest in bringing a richer CamperMate experience to the web.

"In doing so we've added additional features and personalisation options. People can now search and put 'favourite' items onto a wishlist, create a profile to receive personalised recommendations and plan and book experiences and accommodation directly without leaving our site."

The new website also coincides with the launch of a new partnership with domestic holiday experience provider Experience Oz, part of Big Red Group, to be the exclusive market provider for bookable experiences across Australia and New Zealand.

CamperMate's summer marketing campaign also kicks off this month.

The campaign, entitled Take Back Summer, will see the company advertise across a range of print and digital media and social platforms. The campaign will be its most significant in three years.

Mr Johnson said Australia was an "amazing place" to travel.

"No matter where you are there are incredible things to see and do only a drive away," he explained.

"Our campaign is designed to showcase those experiences and encourage more people to get out and experience the beauty of Australia, whether that be a local weekend getaway or an interstate road trip and beyond."
