CARAVANNERS have welcomed news that a local football club on
Queensland's Fraser Coast will develop a new 50-site budget RV park for
travellers.
The local regional council has awarded the $1000-a-year tender to Doon
Villa Soccer Club to set up the low-cost facility on council land near the
entrance to Maryborough Airport.
Enthusiasts were quick to give the thumbs up when Caravanning News
carried news of the decision on its
Facebook page.
"This is a fantastic initiative for our town," wrote Lesley Nussbaumer.
"It will bring much needed funds to the town they would previously have
passed by."
She thought that a local caravan park owner who had objected to the
decision "totally missed the point".
'Totally a win-win
situation for Maryborough'

"These campers were never going to be customers of his," she said.
"They would have passed Maryborough on the way to a more friendly camp
spot.
"Now the town will benefit from their $$ spent around town. Totally a
win-win situation for Maryborough."
Other contributors described the decision as "fantastic" and "great",
while another wrote: "This is the sort of initiative councils and clubs
need to make."
Doon Villa president Brendan Barsby described it as a huge development in
the club's history.
"This decision has the potential to create a major income stream for the
Doon Villa football club while supporting businesses by attracting the
lucrative RV market to our region," he said.
"There are exciting times ahead for our club and we look forward to
working with the Fraser Coast regional council to get the RV park open for
business as soon as possible."
Local councillor Paul Truscott thought the new site would be a positive
step toward in ensuring Maryborough gained official RV-friendly status.
"This is a big step that makes more RV spaces available to attract
travellers into Maryborough and the Fraser Coast," he said.
