Travelling with just 30 ingredients
Meals on wheels: Eva dishes By DENNIS AMOR SEASONED traveller Eva Stovern has come up with the ideal recipe for helping caravanners with their cooking. Accompanied by photographer husband Thom, Eva has chalked up tens of thousands of kilometres travelling the highways and byways of Australia in her caravan ... with just 30 ingredients in her pantry and some basic equipment and utensils. Now the intrepid adventurer has dished up her latest offering showing fellow travellers how they can easily serve up tasty and nutritious meals. "From Andamooka gnocchi to Zeehan creamy chicken and vegetable soup, it's easy to whip up these simple yet delicious recipes while touring Australia," she said.
Eva has just released her second book, Caravan Chef 2: Around Australia with 30 Ingredients. And, she claimed, it makes cooking on the road a breeze ... whether travelling in a caravan or campervan, camping in a tent or holidaying in a cabin. Her simple recipes are named after towns: Sale curried vegetable soup, Broken Hill frittata and Gundagai spaghetti Bolognese. "Everything you need for a tasty and nutritious meal is here, whether you're looking for savouries, soups and salads, pasta and rice dishes, chicken and meat, or fish and shellfish," she explained. Eva began her travels with a tent but soon upgraded to a camper trailer, followed by a modest full-sized caravan and then a luxurious caravan with all the bells and whistles. She now travels in a compact pop-top. She is passionate about travel, wildlife and the environment. But one of her most enjoyable times while on road involves scouring grocery shops in small country towns ... then sitting down to a home-cooked meal in front of a fiery outback sunset, far removed from restaurants and big-city bustle.
