Travellers and locals to have their say on master plan for Fraser Coast parks

A Fraser Coast caravan park Have your say

Fraser Coast Regional Council is preparing a master plan to guide the future of its four caravan parks.

Travellers and locals using the beachfront parks are being asked to have their say on accommodation options and whether at least one should become dog friendly.

Master planning will take place during the next five years, with an allocation of up to $17 million across the four holiday destinations at Torquay, Pialba, Scarness and Burrum Heads.

Cr Jade Wellings said concepts had been prepared, initially to consider issues such as replacing ageing infrastructure, design and layout, and the safety and comfort of guests.

"It's also an opportunity to ensure they meet the size requirements for modern day RVs and caravans," she explained.

"Caravans have become larger and more self-contained, so the park layouts need to reflect that ... they need more space to manoeuvre in and out of sites, as well as connections to power and water.

"The RV and caravan market has become very sophisticated, so our on-site facilities also need to be of a level to attract visitors to our region, especially new visitors."

Former guests of the parks will be sent a questionnaire and those staying over the festive season will also be encouraged to fill in the online version of the survey.

The community is being encouraged to take part by visiting the council's Have Your Say page  where the survey will remain open until January 15 next year.

Cr Wellings said there were questions in the survey about on-site accommodation such as cabins and eco tents and dog-friendly caravan parks.
