150 finalists compete for top gongs

Supershow collects gold in prestigious tourism awards

NSW's premier caravan and holiday show collected a gold award in the state's recent prestigious tourism awards.

The Caravan, Camping, 4WD and Holiday Supershow, which attracts more than 80,000 visitors, was awarded the top accolade in the Festivals and Events category.

Held annually at the Rosehill Racecourse in Sydney, the supershow boasts of being the most extensive display of recreational vehicles, holiday destinations, caravan and holiday parks and leisure products.

Barry Baillie, CEO of the Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW, said: “We are honoured to receive the NSW Tourism Award for the Supershow this year. We are proud of this annual event and also proud to promote regional tourism and support the local economy of Parramatta by drawing thousands of people to the area.

 

"The Supershow is successful due to the efforts of organisers and exhibitors each year that showcase the best of the caravan, RV and camping industry."

 

The 2010 the NSW Supershow will be held from April 17 to 25  at Rosehill Racecourse.

The BIG4 Deniliquin Paringa Holiday Park beat off stiff opposition to collect a gold award in the Tourist and Caravan Parks category.

Sydney's Lane Cove River Tourist Park received a silver award while Halifax Holiday Park at Nelson Bay on the Mid North Coast was handed a bronze award.

Other finalists in the category were the BIG4 Lake Macquarie Monterey Tourist Park at Mannering Park, the BIG4 Nelligen Holiday Park at Nelligen and Jenolan Caravan Park at Oberon.

Lane Cove River Tourist Park also collected a bronze award for excellence in sustainable tourism.

Tourism Minister Jodi McKay said there were close to 150 finalists across 30 categories in this year's awards, highlighting the world-class tourism product and experiences on offer in NSW.

"These awards reinforce the quality, vitality and diversity of the NSW tourism industry and recognise those businesses that have been the benchmark for best practice across the State," she added.

Tourism Industry Council NSW chairman Ken Corbett said: "The incredible professionalism and passion displayed by this year’s finalists sets a new benchmark in the quality of our tourism product in NSW, which can only be good for the industry in the long-term."
