'More
Queenslanders hitting the road'
Record RV sales
at Gold Coast expo
welcome news for tourism providers
Have your say
CARAVANNING Queensland has set a new record
for the largest caravanning, camping and outdoor expo on the Gold Coast.
With almost 20,000 enthusiasts flocking through the gates of Metricon
Stadium, attendance at the recent Let’s Go Gold Coast Caravan and Outdoor
Expo was up by 30 percent year-on-year.
More than 130 exhibitors displayed over 500 recreational vehicles.
Caravanning Queensland chief executive Jason Plant said many exhibitors
had generated record sales, proving the appeal of caravanning was
continuing to gain popularity ... welcome news
for Queensland tourism providers.
"Given 2020 was peppered with lockdowns and disruptions, the fact that
over 400 recreational vehicles were sold at the event is great news for
domestic tourism," he said.
'Another win for the
caravanning industry'

"Those sales resulted in an approximate
combined value of over $20 million, providing another win for the
caravanning industry which suffered through the first hard lockdown in
2020 but has rebounded over the past year.
"This year more than ever, we saw a broader range of demographics attend
the expo, showing that people are not just thinking about a caravan
holiday but also looking to invest in a lifestyle that can be flexible to
sudden change."
Mr Plant said it gave them the freedom to pack up and go anywhere at
anytime and in comfort.
"With international travel still off the cards for now, Queenslanders of
all ages are hitting the road in their own RV to experience what we have
here at home in our own backyard," he added.
Roslyn van Baardwyk, from Cruise Oz, said the turnout showed that the
future for the caravan and recreational vehicle industry was brighter than
ever.
"It was one of the most successful expos we've experienced on the Gold
Coast," she said.
"We had the opportunity to speak to individuals, couples and families to
find out what they're looking for when it comes to caravanning and outdoor
adventures.
"Sales were very strong, with more newcomers than ever before purchasing
their first ever recreational vehicle."
Apollo's national sales manager Robin Harris, whose company manufactures
Windsor and Coromal caravans, said it was looking forward to a successful
year of trade shows with Caravanning Queensland.
"We find great value in CQ's shows," she explained.
"Being able to interact with our customers on a large scale is so
beneficial to our trade, and the success of the Gold Coast Expo points to
another great year for us at the upcoming Supershow in Brisbane."
