ALTHOUGH in need of upgrading, the caravan park at Griffith Showground in NSW still offers the facility its main income potential, according to a draft management plan.

It suggests that if the showground – situated on Crown land – is to be better utilised there needs to be a focus on events and activities that would draw people to the site, including improving the "appearance and functionality" of the caravan park.

Managed by the town's Coro sports and social club, the caravan park has a 60-site camping area and 26 caravan sites mainly occupied by permanent residents.

"Given its current state, the maximum income potential will not be realised unless a substantial upgrade is undertaken," the plan said.

"It is recommended that the upgrade be consistent with a recognised tourist rating."

It estimated that around $700,000 would need to be spent to establish a higher tourist park rating to broaden the site's appeal to potential tourists.

"The net income potential could be anywhere between $250,000 and $400,000 per annum, generating a profit/surplus of approximately $100,000 per annum once capital expenditure has been taken into account and dependent on the management model implemented," the plan said.

The draft management plan is on public exhibition, with public submissions being accepted until August 10.

Crown Lands general manager Graham Harding said it addressed the current usage of the showground.

"The exhibition is being undertaken by the Crown Lands Division of the Department of Primary Industries on behalf of the Griffith Showground Trust.

"It identifies management actions to deliver positive outcomes for the future development and management of the Griffith Showground," he said.
