Lost ... and found!

Hitch lock no deterrent to cheeky caravan thieves

A TOWING lock proved no barrier when caravan thieves struck at Ballarat in Victoria.

The cheeky crooks removed the device and hitched up before hauling the $25,000 Jayco Destiny from a property at Clarendon.

Police said the owner had intended living in the 4.6m, single axle pop-top while building on the block.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Senior Constable Garth Morris on 03 5336 6080 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, police recovered a caravan which was stolen from Hindmarsh in South Australia four years ago.

Forensic experts were examining the $25,000, 22ft caravan for evidence of 're-birthing'.

Police said a 36-year-old man from McLaren Vale had been charged with dishonestly receiving stolen property.
