Successful strategies earn prestigious awards Market leaders praised for 'lean manufacturing' processes
NEW South Wales recreational vehicle builder Kimberley Kampers is celebrating after scooping two prestigious business awards. The Ballina-based manufacturer of off-road caravans, camper trailers, modified long wheelbase vehicles and rooftop tents, collected the Panasonic Australia Medium Business and AMP Innovation awards in this year's New South Wales Telstra Business Awards. Telstra Business Group managing director and Telstra Business Awards ambassador Deena Shiff said judges were impressed by market leadership demonstrated by the company. "The Telstra Business Awards applaud and inspire the strength and spirit of Australia's entrepreneurs, and Kimberley Kampers well deserves its place among the select group of businesses which have been recognised as award winners over the past 17 years," she said. "Kimberley Kampers is a successful regional employee which has demonstrated that manufacturing can succeed in Australia. The company embraces new technologies in order to set itself apart from its peers and deliver greater market responsiveness." Ms Shiff said more than 350 new Kimberley Karavans had been produced, achieving "design and production maturity" in less than three years. This was exceptional for an advanced product. "They use lean manufacturing processes that enables them to configure at the last point of assembly using standard options, eliminating the need for custom build orders," she said. "It has been a successful strategy for the company, selling through distributors Australia-wide and also exports to the USA."
Kimberley Kampers managing director Bruce Loxton said his company was surprised with the high level of demand for sustainable energy solutions in their Kampers, Karavans and now Roof Top Tents. "We have invested in applying energy efficient technology that is practical and beneficial to all our customers," he said. "Going forward, our goal is to help more people travel and discover their country, and to do so with the best technology to give ease of set up, and comfort for any off road camping location in many countries." Ms Shiff said Telstra was committed to helping small and medium-sized businesses succeed by providing them with business grade tools and guidance for today's challenging and ever-changing environment. "We reach more small and medium businesses than almost any other organisation and we want them to succeed by providing services and solutions, as well as by working in partnership with them to help their business thrive into the future," she said. "As part of this commitment, each year Telstra invests months of work and millions of dollars to assess the hundreds of entries in the Telstra Business Awards. We make such a significant undertaking because we want to work with small and medium businesses to realise their potential and receive the recognition they deserve."
