New area officially opened

More sites at Mudjimba
for Christmas revellers

Have your say

WOULD-BE Christmas revellers are already hankering to book sites at the newly-extended council-owned Mudjimba Beach Holiday Park on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

The news comes only days after it was announced another of the council's parks ‒ the nearby Mooloolaba Beachfront Caravan Park ‒ would not be saved from the bulldozers to make way for public open space (see story here).

Forty-six new sites will be opened at Mudjimba on December 9 ... a 30 percent increase.

Sunshine Coast Council said they were already heavily booked for the Christmas school holidays, with the two weeks from Christmas Day to January 7 fully booked.

The expansion includes 45 powered and one unpowered sites, new internal roads, fencing and landscaping, drainage, and electrical and plumbing work.

An existing barbecue shelter was also upgraded to a modern camp kitchen with new appliances, a kitchen sink and functional seating.

The new area was officially opened by Councillor Jason OPray.

'The popularity of this park is not surprising'

"I'm proud to open such a great addition to what I believe is one of the Sunshine Coast's best holiday spots," he said.

"The popularity of this park is not surprising, as it is in an ideal location between the Mudjimba Beach and Maroochy River.

"Visitors can look forward to even more facilities in 2017, when council will replace the current amenities building."

Park managers Darren and Tanya McSorley said the new sites were large and open, and offered easy access.

"Council has impressed us with the quality of the work and the timely completion of the job," they said.

Park visitors George and Wendy Cooper said they enjoyed staying at Mudjimba and were happy to see the new sites finished.

"This park is always so lovely and well-kept, and it's so nice to be close to the beach," Ms Cooper said.

"It's a great spot to escape the daily routine and relax."

In addition to the upgrades, work is also underway to add 16 new sites to Dicky Beach Holiday Park and construct concrete annex pads at Coolum Holiday Park.

A new caretakers' undercover veranda was recently completed at Maroochydore Beach Holiday Park.

The upgrades are being delivered through Sunshine Coast Council’s Capital Works Program.
