New breed of campers flood into state's holiday parks

ORGANISERS of a major caravan, camping and holiday show in NSW are expecting a flood of first time campers to descend on the event.

This follows a survey of caravan parks which revealed a noticeable rise in the number of people turning to the traditional touring getaway.

Chief executive officer of the Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW Barry Baillie said this would probably be reflected in visitor numbers at the forthcoming Penrith Caravan, Camping and Holiday Expo.

"Over the summer period, 52.6 percent of CCIA member holiday parks said there were more 'new campers', with around 30 percent reporting an increase in the use of camper trailers and tents," he explained.

"With more people turning to value for money caravan and camping holidays, attendances at the Penrith Expo could reflect a new breed of campers."

The Penrith Expo will be held at Penrith Panthers between September 11-13 and is a free event for the public to visit for pre-summer sales offered by around 150 exhibitors.

"For those new to the market or even those wanting to add to their gear, it is the ideal event to grab great bargains on tents and camping gear, caravans, motorhomes and other RVs," Mr Baillie said.

"Everyone deserves a holiday and caravan, camping and RV getaways are still the best value holiday option for all Australians, offering something for every budget."

Visitors could also browse a range of holiday destinations from across NSW with many caravan and holiday parks exhibiting at the event.

The Penrith Expo will showcase diverse displays of caravans, motorhomes, camper trailers, campervans, Fifth wheelers, camping equipment and tents, 4WD products and accessories, holiday destinations and tourist parks and more for the avid traveller to browse and buy.
