Organisers express surprise as ... Parks prove winners in hunt for best holiday properties VICTORIANS have shown their love for great outdoors by voting 24 caravan parks and camping areas into the top 101 favourite accommodation properties. And that has surprised organisers of the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria's campaign to find the state's best places to stay. Tourism and Travel general manager Neil James said more than 600 properties had been nominated and more than 6000 comments collected from RACV members and Victorians since the campaign began in July. "While all types of accommodation were nominated and voted for, from the most luxurious five-star retreats to the local caravan park, it has been quite surprising that caravan parks have consistently been voted into the top 10," he said. "This shows that family holidays are very popular and that Victorians love to holiday in the outdoors, whether that be a camping area, fishing spot or at the beach. "From the comments we gather that many of these places are traditional holiday spots where families have holidayed across generations." Included in the top 10 are Boathaven Holiday Park at Ebden, BIG4 Beacon Resort at Queenscliff and Anglesea Beachfront Family Caravan Park on the Great Ocean Road. Twenty-one other caravan parks feature in the remaining nominations. The organisation's website at www.racv.com.au allows visitors to nominate and vote for their favourite accommodation places and keep track of their rankings as the campaign progresses. "We want to make sure we have uncovered those secret places that provide Victorians with great memories of a wonderful place to stay and encourage people to make sure their favourite place has been nominated," explained Mr James. "By leaving a comment on the site's blog about why they have nominated or voted for a particular property, people can also enter the draw to win one of three $1000 travel vouchers." Voting closes on October 8. BACK TO CARAVANNING NEWS MAIN PAGE
