New plan for rainforest education centre Secrets near Sleepy Hollow may become giant park A POPULAR tourist attraction in northern NSW may be turned into one of the region's biggest caravan parks. Tweed Shire Council is considering an application from Port Macquarie-based Auscorp Capital to open a 580-site mobile home park on the 80ha Rainforest Secrets property. The site is just a stone's throw from the Pacific Highway's Sleep Hollow rest area, used by many caravanners and motorhomers heading to and from Queensland. It is planned to provide long-term sites supported by a bowling green, swimming pool, golf course and gym. There would also be "light industry" for manufacturing moveable dwellings. Opponents claim the development would put added pressure on the area's water supply. Set amongst thousands of regenerated rainforest trees, Rainforest Secrets was dedicated to educating visitors about one of Australia's richest biodiverse environments - the Mount Warning volcanic region.
It was bought by the Marshall family, local farmers since the 1860s, in
the 1940s. BACK TO CARAVANNING NEWS MAIN PAGE
