AUSTRALIA'S peak caravan body represents a "sexy" industry with a
bright future, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has been told.
The description brought smiles to Mr Turnbull's face during a face-to-face
meeting with Caravan Industry Association of Australia Treasurer Dennis
Austin.
Mr Austin was showcasing the strength of the caravanning industry in the
wake of the declining car industry.
During the meeting he highlighted the billion-dollar contribution of his
industry, which was currently showing a near six percent growth.
He also pointed out that almost a million visitor nights were spent in
caravan parks weekly and that the industry focus was in regional
Australia, where approximately 90 percent of camping nights took place.
"It was an incredible opportunity to present our industry messages to the
highest authority in parliamentary circles over this lunch meeting," Mr
Austin said afterwards.
"I was able to tell the Prime Minister that we represent a very sexy industry with a bright future."
During the meeting, Mr Austin also sat with the PM's key advisors and
presented an industry briefing paper detailing its strength, together with
concerns and positions on current issues.
He said the objective of presenting his industry's success had been met.
"Today we gained valuable traction in informing the Prime Minister of our
industry's strength and future to the degree that he would have been
unaware," he added.
The association said it was particularly important that industry messages
and concerns were presented to key decision makers in Federal Government.
Mr Austin had presented Mr Turnbull with messages of industry growth and
its value to the Australian economy.
