Caravan park shines in tinsel competition

THE owners of the Acacia Caravan Park at Ararat in Victoria have has taken out the 2019 Tinsel my Town title.

Matt and Kaylene Linsley won the popular vote for their efforts in marketing and promoting their business during December.

They said they were overjoyed to win the competition, which handed them a $4000 advertising package with competition sponsor ACE Radio.

"It was a great return on our investment – we had decorated the park anyway and Tinsel my Town was another chance to promote what we do to our customer base," Mr Linsley said.

"And we are really excited at the opportunity to further promote our business through the prize."

Tinsel my Town aims to encourage businesses to engage with their customer base by motivating them to vote for their Christmas decoration display set up in their shop front or around their business site.

Ararat Rural City chief executive Dr Tim Harrison said the annual competition – run by the council's economic development team – aimed to get local businesses into the Christmas spirit with the chance of winning a fantastic prize.

"This year Tinsel my Town entries came from hairdressers, health food shops, wineries and a childcare centre, with some wonderful decorations and adornments adding to the Christmas spirit around town," he said.

"It's great to see our local businesses getting into the spirit and also promoting what they do to their customers and the wider community, which is why we hold the competition in partnership with ACE Radio through 3WM, MIXX FM and The Weekly Advertiser."

The Weekly Advertiser editor Dean Lawson said the competition fitted neatly with AC's philosophy of working with businesses to help develop and grow socio-economic health in regional communities.

"Providing opportunities for businesses to get on the front foot to engage with customers in a fun and rewarding way represents a clear win for all involved," he said.

"We're proud to be a partner in the concept and the philosophy surrounding the promotion. This type of proactive approach sends a message that Ararat is primed to push strongly into the future."
