Campervan stolen from nudist beach carpark

Thief leaves grey nomad with just shorts and towel

A Fiat Ducato campervan similar to the one stolen

A RED-FACED grey nomad was left with just a pair of shorts and a towel after a thief made off with his campervan from a nudist beach in the Northern Territory.

The 69-year-old Queensland traveller from Cairns had left the $100,000 vehicle at the Casuarina free beach carpark near Darwin, but when he returned three-and-a-half hours later it had disappeared.

A police spokesperson said: "It contained all the victim’s possessions, leaving him with nothing but a pair of football shorts and a beach towel."

It is thought the thief stole the ignition keys from the hapless traveller's backpack as he was taking a dip then searched for the vehicle using the automatic remote.

Caravanners have now been asked to be on the lookout for the Fiat Ducato campervan bearing Queensland registration plates 653JRJ.

It is described as being in good condition, white in colour with a red AVAN logo written on the sides. It has a black bull bar.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw the vehicle in the carpark or when it was being driven away to contact them..

Anyone with information is urged to call 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
