THE definition of hotel seems to be getting broader.

TripAdvisor, which claims to be the world's largest travel site, has named two holiday parks in its latest prestigious list of Top Ten hotels in Australia.

They are the BIG4 Cairns Coconut Resort in Queensland and the BIG4 Beacon Resort in Victoria.

Given holiday parks are not normally categorised under ‘hotels’, BIG4 said their presence on the list was indicative of how luxurious and fully serviced they had now become.

It also showed the trend which proved that consumers were now recognising.

Steven WrightBIG4 chief executive Steven Wright (pictured left) commented: "It’s very exciting to see the public recognising what's perhaps the world's best-kept secret – that many holiday parks offer extremely high quality accommodation that competes with the best of the best within the hotel industry."

He said many of the parks belonging to the the chain's network of 180-plus members were "premium operators", offering luxury villas, cafes and restaurants, water parks and slides, activity centres and even spas and fitness gyms.

"BIG4 Cairns Coconut Resort and BIG4 Beacon Resort embody the BIG4 values of great location, exceptional quality, fun and connectedness that underpin great holidays," he explained.

TripAdvisor had validated what BIG4 members already knew ... that holiday parks were the travellers' choice for hotels.

Owner-operator of BIG4 Beacon Resort Lorraine Golightly commented: "We are proud to be the recipient of this prestigious award, especially one that is recognised as a mark of excellence by the customers we aim to serve.

"To prove ourselves in this incredibly competitive category is a credit to the entire Beacon team.

"Their enthusiasm, dedication and drive to deliver the best possible experience for our guest is key to our success."

TripAdvisor ranked her resort tenth in Australia and 20th in the South Pacific region.
