'Genuine
concerns regarding proposal'
Worried
community given more time
to comment on campground plan
Have your say
A COMMUNITY on NSW's Mid North Coast has
been given more time to comment on plans for an official campground
at the local sports club.
MidCoast Council said it will now accept comments from concerned citizens
until 30 March to allow locals to have their say.
Tuncurry Sporties Club wants to create an official campground for
self-contained RVs and trailers on land around the existing club facility.
It had operated a campground without approval for several years,
encouraging travellers in up to 12 self-contained RVs with toilet and
shower to stay in parking areas for up to four nights. Fees were $5 per
person per night.
"With the relaxation of COVID restrictions the club sought to reopen the
site for camping," the council's Director of Liveable Communities, Paul De
Szell, explained.
The application proposes 37 sites for the parking of registered "moveable
dwellings".
Sites will be established on existing grassland areas and will generally
be 12m x 5m. There will also be five double-sized spaces (24m x 5m) for
longer RVs.
Neighbours were notified of the requirements outlined in the council's
community participation plan, which provides for a 14-day notification
period for this type of development.
"We do understand the community has some genuine concerns regarding the
proposal," Mr De Szell said.
"So to allow them to express their views to us, a decision has been made
to extend the deadline for submissions."
