Your caravan tyres need
special attention: RACQ

Have your say

tyreQUEENSLAND'S biggest motoring club has warned caravanners to pay special attention to their tyres.

The RACQ points out that most manufacturers guarantee tyres for five years after which owners need to consider replacing them.

It advised that when not in use, they should be stored in a cool and dry environment not in direct sunlight.

And it added: "If a caravan has not been used regularly, this does not mean the tyres are in good condition, as tyre walls will deteriorate."

Poorly inflated tyres were more likely to suffer a blow-out, would wear faster and unevenly and could increase your fuel consumption.

"The correct tyre pressure differs for each caravan and your owner's manual or the caravan manufacturer should have information about the correct psi.

"During this process, also be sure to check the inflation of your spare caravan tyre."

The RACQ said a caravan's weight could cause uneven tyre wear.

"Regularly check your tyres for wear and tear, and replace when necessary," it added.
