Mayor delivers good news

Wallum Reserve rest area
set to welcome travellers again

Have your say

BUNDABERG's mayor has delivered some good news for grey nomads and other travellers.

Cr Jack Dempsey (pictured), who is campaigning to be re-elected in Queensland's Rum City, has revealed that work is pressing ahead on re-opening the Wallum Reserve rest area on the Isis Highway.

He said many locals drove past the facility, 25km from Bundaberg, without knowing just how significant the rest stop was for visitors, especially caravanners and drivers of motorhomes.

Unfortunately, vegetation was damaged in a recent bushfire and thieves made off with a rainwater tank.

Council workers are now completing repairs for the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

A new rainwater tank is being installed, bollards, posts and rails are being replaced and roads will be resealed.

"It's a positive example of cooperation between agencies to make sure community amenities are up to scratch," Cr Dempsey said.

"Spread the word to travellers!"

It is hoped the rest area will again be available to travellers towards the end of this month.
