Concern over the future
Consultant to quiz locals on
future of oceanside parks
TWO oceanside caravan parks at Warrnambool in Victoria will not be
developed into glitzy upmarket resorts, it is claimed.
Concern over their future was expressed after Warrnambool City Council
advertised for a consultant to prepare a development investment plan for
the 175-site Surfside Holiday and 517-site Shipwreck Bay caravan parks.
But the city's tourism services manager, Peter Abbott, told local media
they would continue as tourist parks, adding: "The city council is
committed to keeping the parks for holidaymakers."
Locals and tourists, who for years have enjoyed budget holidays at the two
parks, will be asked for suggestions on how the parks can be improved.
The consultant will then deliver a report on how best the city council can
develop the parks, which stand at one end of the picturesque and popular
Great Ocean Road.
Shipwreck Bay is unused for most of the year, opening in December and
pulling down the shutters after the Easter holidays.
