The new Apple iPad: endless
possibilities |
MOVE over you grey nomads ... today's travellers are getting younger,
thanks to the onslaught of 'whiz-bang' technologies.
A more youthful generation is being lured into caravanning by the
affordable price tag and ability to 'stay connected' while away from home.
In fact, according to Caravanning Queensland, Aussies between the ages of
18 and 35 now make up 40 percent of caravanners and holidaymakers at
caravan parks and campgrounds.
The organisation said the growth of hi-tech caravans, camper trailers and
motorhomes, along with the increasing popularity of wireless networks, GPS
tracking technology and online booking systems, had made it easier and
more attractive for younger generations to hit the open road on touring
holidays.
Chief executive officer Ron Chapman said they revelled in the industry's
new 'whiz-bang' technologies such as plasma screens, satellite TV,
expandable caravans and wireless internet.
"Caravan parks from Darling Downs to Cape York are reporting an increasing
number of young people on the roads this year as the winter pilgrimage
begins," he said.
"Touring holidays are affordable, easy and can be very spontaneous – all
attractive attributes for young people looking for the freedom of the open
roads.
"Technology is certainly making touring holidays easier and more
attractive to young people. As a result, more and more caravan and holiday
parks and retailers are setting up shop online to capitalise on this
trend.
"As Australia takes delivery of Apple’s new iPad, I can only imagine the
endless possibilities available for touring holidays enthusiasts!
"Catching up with the latest news from home, chatting to friends online,
paying bills, reading reviews on caravan and camping gadgets and booking
your next caravan park, mobile technology surely makes almost everything
possible on the open roads now."
