Winnebago forges ahead with plans for record-breaking year

Have your say

LAUNCHED less than a year ago, RV builder Winnebago Australia has predicted a "record-breaking" year ahead.

Chief executive Luke Trouchet reported that the iconic brand had made a strong impact with its quality Australian-built motorhomes, campervans and US-built Minnie Winnie caravans.

"Australian caravan and motorhome enthusiasts have really welcomed Winnebago," he said.

"2015 has been an exciting journey for us and we are making some big plans for the road ahead.

“With new models in production, brand new colour schemes and the launch of the first Australian-made Winnebago caravan, we're aiming to make 2016 a record-breaking year."

Mr Trouchet's family-owned Apollo Group is licenced to build, import and sell official Winnebago products in Australia and New Zealand.

Since February last year, Winnebagos have rolled out to a national dealership network located across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland and in New Zealand.

Mr Trouchet hopes to see Winnebago become one of Australia's favourite RV brands.

"One thing our customers are realising is that 'standard features' on Winnebago RVs are 'extras' on many other RV ranges.

"This makes official Winnebago RVs great value for money and a lifestyle choice," he said.

"Our dealer network has shared positive customer feedback on features such as external BBQ, reverse camera, child anchor points, and swivel chairs – which come standard in most Winnebago RV models.

"Winnebago's Australian-designed RV interiors allow for plenty of natural light, and this creates a great atmosphere travellers really love."

David and Adele Powell from Wagga Wagga in Victoria bought a three-berth Minnie Winnie caravan last October and said it has been a life-changing purchase for their family.

"Because this was our first caravan, we spent months researching which brand and model, visiting dealerships and expos all over Victoria, Mr Powell said.

The 'clincher' in making their choice, the couple said, was that the Winnebago Minnie 2106 packed so many features in while still coming under the weight restriction for their Dodge Nitro tow vehicle.

"We got a leather lounge, slide-out panel and island bed for under our budget, which was amazing value.

"It's been the best thing we ever did,” Mr Powell said.

The Minnie Winnie range of caravans imported to Australia has proven popular due to the RVs' eye-catching colours.

A 'baby pink' Minnie Winnie 1806 is a part of a 12-month fundraising promotion for the National Breast Cancer Foundation of Australia, which has so far raised some $35,000 for the cause and will run until October.

The current Winnebago range boasts five motorhomes, two campervans and a range of three to six-berth caravans.

New models are expected to be introduced in this year's range, with the brand being represented across Australia major caravan and camping shows including Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane.
