The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia has lost its long and drawn
out battle to open an RV Park at Mossman in north Queensland. Douglas Shire
Council finally threw out CMCA's application this week after it was first
mooted in 2017. The decision was made despite 93 percent of 383 locals
giving the proposed facility the thumb's up in a community consultation.
Caravan parks in the area had objected to the planned park.

BHP will temporarily close Leinster Caravan Park in the northern goldfields
area of Western Australia from February 5 to restrict the number of visitors
passing through the town.

SA's York Peninsula Council has invited public
feedback on a proposal to endorse a new lease for Voysey Holdings to operate

Yorke Peninsula. Closing date is Feb 17. Voysey,
part
of the RV parks and recreational
camps industry,
plans to tidy the park including rubbish removal, weeding, extensive
earthworks to level all caravan sites, reset uneven paving, repaint and
refresh external surfaces, create new and appropriate plantings and
regenerate lawn areas.

Sunshine Coast builder Ben Murphy, whose company BA Murphy Constructions
collapsed with debts of $11m last month, has reportedly sold his
multi-million dollar mansion and hit the road for a family caravanning
holiday. An Instagram posting revealing the road trip has since been taken
down. "We have never travelled around Australia nor camped or caravanned,"
the post reportedly said. "But 2021 almost sent us around the bend so we
figure now is the time to regroup and show our little cherubs this beautiful
country we live in."

MidCoast Council reports that work is on schedule as
an extensive two-year geotechnical hazard study of Seal Rocks Road to assess
its stability proceeds. Geotechnical drilling along the road reserves and
within the Seal Rock Caravan Park were completed late last year.

Prostate cancer survivor Alec Hamilton plans to
attend Adelaide's Go Caravan Camping Show next month ... and he will use his
wheelchair as transport for the marathon journey from his home 450km away in
Mount Gambier. Money raised during the trip will be donated to prostate
cancer charities.

Councillors will on Tuesday be urged to decide
whether a longstanding proposal to provide an RV park at Mossman in
Queensland's Douglas Shire should be given the green light or not.

Caravan Industry Association of Australia appealing
for members to provide insights into how the COVID pandemic has impacted on
their businesses and operations. The information will be passed on to the
Federal Government which wants feedback on current issues being experienced.

Fire Rescue Victoria has appealed to campers to take
more care with their campfires. They have already caused 270 bushfires on
public land this fire season, which is more than half the fires responded to
by Forest Fire Management Victoria crews. At least 91 of these unattended
campfires sparked bushfires over the Christmas and New Year period.

Bill Foxwell of Eden in NSW will be awarded a 2022
Bega Valley Medallion during Australia Day celebrations on January 26. The
award is in recognition of his work in providing refurbished caravans to
bushfire-affected locals. Mayor Russell Fitzpatrick said Mr Foxwell was
among 14 "outstanding individuals" who had served the community over a
number of years.

Councillor Bruce Kent has successfully called for a
review of the overnight needs of grey nomads and other travellers in
Victoria' Bass Coast area. The local shire council will now investigate
after he told the council that RVers are avoiding the region south-east of
Melbourne because of the lack of free camping areas.

A dual-axle caravan being towed by a grey ute flipped
onto its side while travelling on Victoria's busy Princes Freeway near Point
Cook Road exit today. An identical caravan also being towed by a grey ute
managed to stop in time. No one was reportedly injured in the mishap. Three
lanes were blocked and heavy lifting gear was brought in to recover the
caravan.

Several firefighting crews failed to prevent a camper
trailer from burning to the ground at Anderleigh Road, Gundalda in
Queensland. No injuries reported.
JANUARY 16:
Queensland-based
Sunland and Phoenix Caravans managing director Roy Wyss Jnr, who posted
graphic photos on Facebook claiming his nose-ring had been ripped
from his face while touring the UK, has now admitted it was all a hoax. "The
nose-ring was completely fake," he wrote in a follow-up posting. "I did not
have my nose pierced. I just thought I'd have a bit of fun. You've got to
have a giggle sometimes haven't ya!"

Travellers, including caravanners, will be able to
move freely into and out of Queensland from Saturday when border
restrictions are lifted. They will still need proof of vaccinations to visit
events and venues.

Queensland's Gympie Regional Council says there is
still time to submit feedback and ideas as it finalises a new recreational
vehicle strategy. The plan will focus on current and potential RV sites on
council-owned or controlled land and on self-contained RVs to minimise
on-site impacts associated with the use. Some comments received so far
support low-cost RV sites rather than free sites, indicating most travellers
are happy to pay a small fee where services are provided. Feedback will
close on January 31.

conference on January 25.

The Crooked Carrot on WA's Forrest Hwy ‒ popular for
its 'on-the-go' fresh food ‒ says it is looking forward to borders being
opened on February 5 so it can welcome back the hordes of grey nomads who
travelled through with their caravans before the COVID pandemic erupted.

Fleetwood, which operates RV accessories company
Northern Camec and the Melbourne-based caravan repairs and services company
Northern RV, has appointed Ernst & Young as its new auditor. The decision,
it has told shareholders, was based "on their reputation, experience and

ambulanceman who went to his aid when his caravan hitch came adrift on the
Great Western Hwy from Wallerawang two months ago. "It was an exemplary
example of offering ready assistance for someone in need," he says on the

Thousands of grey nomads have been caught up in Queensland's
torrential rains, with some areas copping half a metre in a day. One
couple's motorhome was swept away in raging floodwaters at Ban Ban Springs
in Wide Bay, causing them to climb through a window in their pyjamas and
swim with their dog to safety.

Caravanners urged to stay put as overnight torrential
rains throughout Queensland's Wide Bay and Fraser Coast regions leave many
roads flood-bound. Major flood warning issued for the Mary River at Tiaro
and Glenwood on the Bruce Hwy and nearby Miva. Meanwhile, NSW's Emergency
services volunteers helped evacuate hundreds of people from flooded caravan
park at Eden as storms swept across the state.

heading to the Tamworth Country Music Festival, disappointed at today's
announcement that it has now been postponed until April.

Queensland motoring organisation RACQ is urging new
caravan owners to enrol in a towing course. "The trainers will give you
great advice on how to stay safe on the road and teach the basic skills of
caravanning, such as reversing," it says.

Caravanners are shaking off the COVID blues and
arriving well in time for the start of the Tamworth Country Music Festival,
despite the NSW city suffering record-breaking infections. The 10-day
festival, which kicks off on January 14, turns 50 this month and organisers
say it will be as virus safe as possible.

Heavy surf and dangerous winds from ex-tropical
cyclone Seth ruined the festive celebrations of many caravanners and campers
along Queensland's south-east coast, including at the popular Inskip Point
which had already been hit with an outbreak of gastroenteritis.

Police are investigating a fatal head-on collision
involving a caravan at Myrtlebank in eastern Victoria. The driver of a sedan
died after his vehicle burst into flames on Myrtlebank Road near Maffra-Sale
Road. The male driver and female passenger of a grey utility, which was
towing a caravan, were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

JANUARY 3:
COVID case confirmed at Torquay Caravan Park on Queensland's
Fraser Coast. Local mayor George Seymour said the guest has been isolated
off-site. "Bookings have been put on hold pending advice from Queensland
Health," he said. Another case reported at nearby Pialba Caravan Park.

Victorian police are hunting a thief who made off
with an Earth brand E-bike from Surfside Holiday Park in Pertobe Road,
Warrnambool.
