'A real changing
of the guard'
Peak body
elects new board members
AUSTRALIA'S
peak body for the caravanning industry has
welcomed new national board members for a two-year term.
Following an election by the state caravanning associations, the
composition of the Caravan Industry Association of Australia board has
been updated.
Kate Meldrum, Martin Cotterell and Grant Wilckens were re-elected with
three new members ‒ Margaret Shannon, Nikki
Milne and Chris Woods
(pictured) ‒ joining them.
Current board members Donna Cocking, Brad Slater and Gerard Waldron were
not subject to re-election and will continue to serve for another year
ahead of a ballot next November.
The board has navigated one of the most challenging periods for industry
to date, while also strategically planning for the future proofing of the
industry.
Embracing a diversity target, the association said it was encouraging that
almost half of all board nominations received were female and that four of
the nine board members are now female, reflecting current community
standards.
WOMEN
WELCOMED
TO CIAA BOARDROOM
THE
association has welcomed the results, saying
that even the most male dominated industry sectors have seen more
women in the boardroom. "Each successful board member did so on
merit and not based around a forced quota," it said. "There have
been trailblazing women within the industry in the past, but they
have always been heavily outnumbered around the board tables across
the nation. The current mix is very much encouraged and welcomed,
with further programs being planned on how to empower more women in
our industry to raise their profile and nominate for key industry
positions." |

In an industry which has been historically
dominated by males in leadership positions, it was "exciting" to see
females rising to the top and provide input into industry strategic
direction, it said.
The association thanked retiring members Dennis Austin, Chris Goddard and
James Kelly who each had "offered their considerable expertise, business
acumen, hard work and support over at least three consecutive board
terms".
Dennis and Chris also served on the boards of CRVA and RVMAA before the
merge into what is now known as Caravan Industry Association of Australia.
"Their commitment and support will be missed around the room, and we will
look to continue to engage individually with each of them on various
important Association projects," the association said.
Chief executive Stuart Lamont described it as a real changing of the
guard.
"We acknowledge the tremendous contribution of the retiring board members
and look forward to new debate ahead," he said.
"The industry has many challenges and opportunities ahead and we welcome
the addition of three individuals just as committed and passionate about
what lies ahead as those who have retired today."
The association's national board is comprised of up to nine individuals
from across the industry with no more than five board members involved in
the same caravan industry category (Parks or Trades) as identified at the
time of their nomination.
In accordance with its constitution, Grant Wilckens will remain as Chair
for one year before subjecting himself to a further vote of extension by
state associations, with other office-bearer positions to be determined at
the first meeting of the new board.
