BIG4 plea on fires

Thousands flee as fires worsen

Holiday park chains release info as deadly bushfires rage

Have your say

TWO major holiday park chains have released information on their parks as deadly bushfires continue to rage in three states.

BIG4 Holiday Parks has urged travellers to be "fully informed" about areas they plan to visit.

The plea comes as Australia struggles through what is being called the most devastating bushfire season in living memory.

Thousands of firefighters, emergency workers and volunteers are battling blazes in NSW, SA and Victoria which have claimed at least nine lives, bringing the death toll this fire season to more than 20.

Thousands of caravanners have been forced to flee camping sites, rest areas and caravan parks as the bushfires worsened.

"Please ensure that you are fully informed about the status of bushfires in the areas that you are travelling through or visiting," BIG4 said.

It has now released a list of its NSW and Victorian holiday parks located in affected regions.

Refunds

BIG4 said it understood that many customers would  be concerned about refunds.

"Given the loss of communications with parks, all refund requests will be addressed once communications are restored and the fire risk has passed," it said.

"All BIG4 parks are required to comply with Australian consumer law regarding refunds in emergency situations. For more information see https://www.accc.gov.au/publications/travel-accommodation-an-industry-guide-to-the-australian-consumer-law.

The holiday chain said that because of present circumstances and limited communications people should refrain from contacting affected parks for non-urgent matters.
