BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park in Queensland has been recognised for its improvements.

The pet-friendly park, which already boasts a swag of trophies and a place in TripAdvisor's Hall of Fame, received the newly introduced Refurbishment Award at the recent Caravan Parks Association of Queensland's Awards night.

Director Theo Whitmont said his park was "proud" of achieving the award.

"We are honored to be ranked amongst the best in Queensland and that our team's hard work and determination to refurbish quite a large area with Australian Astro Turf has been recognised," he said.

Work also involved completely replacing all underground infrastructure – power, water and drainage ‒ and installing new integrated power heads.

"The central area of the park had not been refurbished since inception and after 30 years of hard use the soil was compacted and there was little grass to speak of," Mr Whitmont explained.

"Ultimately the guest experience was beginning to be diluted by this experience, so we attacked the issue head on and now our guests are singing the praises of our new Premier Evergreen sites."

He thanked the Caravan Parks Association of Queensland for introducing the award.
