Oasis in the bush

Discover the secrets
of Cobbold Gorge

Have your say

ONLY the very lucky tourists travelling through outback Queensland have discovered the hidden secrets of Cobbold Gorge.

This oasis in the bush is located on Robin Hood station at Forsayth, 90km south of Georgetown, and offers caravanners and campers unpowered, powered and ensuite sites.

They come with an unrivalled landscape of sheer 30m gorge walls, narrow still water cavities which only specially designed boats can traverse and scenery to keep the most difficult of toddler amazed for hours.

Owners Simon and Gaye Terry discovered the secret of Cobbold Gorge in the 1990s and recently revealed two more amazing secrets ... the launch of the Cobbold Village Enhancement project and the opening of the 'Adullams' shelter project.

The Cobbold Village Enhancement is a joint $330,000 project with the Australian Government's TQUAL 2011 Grants program to help support sustainable tourism development in the Gulf Savannah.

The enhancement includes the internal refurbishment of 20 cabins, the replacement of ageing facilities and has helped to reduce the carbon footprint of the village.

The Adullams’ shelter project incorporates a 150m floating boardwalk and pontoon to allow tourists to access the gorge boats and to protect the fragile environment of the 4720ha Cobbold Gorge Nature Refuge.

"Both projects will ensure our property continues to deliver first rate experiences for our guests," Simon explained. "You can't sit back and expect people to keep coming, that's why we will continue to developed Cobbold Gorge to make sure we maintain repeat business and attract newcomers."

Cobbold Gorge accommodation also includes motel-style rooms, cabins and semi self-contained suites.

As well as gorge tours, guests can take part in bushwalking, bird watching, station tours, fossicking, fishing or just relaxing in the peaceful Australian bush.

And for the adventurous at heart scenic helicopter flights can also be arranged.
