BREAKING NEWS:

MARCH 31:
Apollo Tourism & Leisure today announced that the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has agreed to delay its indicative timeline in relation to the application for clearance of the proposed merger with NZ's Tourism Holdings Limited to allow additional time for the parties to provide, and for the ACCC to consider, further information. The ACCC has given an updated provisional date of April 28 to announce its findings.

MARCH 29:
THE Caravan Industry Association of Australia has reminded businesses that changes to LP gas cylinders are being phased in. They are changing from the current Type 21/POL valve to the new Type 27 QCC valve on cylinders with a capacity up to 25L (nominal 10kg).

Work is underway on improving facilities at the 183-site Mudjimba Beach Holiday Park on Queensland's Sunshine Coast.

Transport and Main Roads Queensland has warned potential buyers to carry out thorough inspections and seek professional advice before handing over cash for second hand RVs after recent flooding in Queensland and NSW. "While many vehicles will be entered into the written-off vehicle register (WOVR) and will not be able to be re-registered for use on our roads, some vehicles will not be considered a total loss and therefore won't be entered into the WOVR," it says. "These vehicles could be sold by auction or private sale."

Victoria's Barwon Coast Committee of Management will officially take over the reins of Breamlea Holiday Park on April 1.

MARCH 25:
The small town of Bowraville in NSW's Mid North Coast hinterland is trialling a three-month primitive camping site for caravanners and other travellers. It is located on the Southern side of Lanes Bridge and offers an on-site toilet block but no dumping facilities.

Moves are underway to ban caravans and other RVs parking on Gold Coast streets following hundreds of complaints from local residents.

Crusader Caravan Owners Group of Australia is planning a two-day get-together at Broken Creek Bush Camp near Benalla in north east Victoria from October 21.

Kings Canyon Resort in the Northern Territory has joined the Discovery Parks group. It will now be known as Discovery Kings Canyon and the campground and holiday park as Discovery Parks – Kings Canyon.

Victorian Caravan Parks Association has congratulated the BIG4 Castlemaine Gardens Holiday Park team on representing Victoria as finalists in the caravan and holiday parks category at the 2021 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards.

MARCH 22:
The Victorian Government will tomorrow release 140,000 travel vouchers allowing people to stay in paid accommodation, including caravan park and campsites, for a minimum of two consecutive nights between April 8 and May 27. The scheme provides successful applicants with a $200 reimbursement when expenses of more than $400 are incurred across accommodation, attraction and experiences.

Police investigating caravan blaze which left a couple in their 20s with critical burns at
Wilbur Street address in Logan Central south of Brisbane. It is thought an electric scooter could have sparked the fire.

THE Caravan Industry Association of Australia has revealed its Future Leaders Award finalists. Sponsored by Apollo RV, the awards provide the opportunity for up-and-coming professionals to be recognised and rewarded for their outstanding achievement in the industry. They are Kate Humphreys (brand manager at Tasman Holiday Parks), Andrew Hewitt (general manager at BIG4 Gold Coast Holiday Park), Fernando Braganza (WA state manager at Market Direct Group), Nicole Hurkins (managing director at Overlanda Caravans) and Albert Atkins (product manager at REDARC Electronics). The winner will be announced at the association's annual conference gala dinner on April 1.

MARCH 21:
Queensland's Julia Creek Caravan Park, well known for its artesian baths, scooped the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards' Silver Award in the Caravan and Holidays Park category.

Kimberleyland Waterfront Holiday Park at Kununurra in WA won a Bronze medal in the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards' Caravan and Holiday Parks category.

Transport for NSW will lay on free sessions in Cowra where caravanners can have their RV and towing vehicle weighed. They will be held at Cowra Showground in Grenfell Road on April 29.

MARCH 19:
Tasmania's Kentish Council has decided to temporarily ban overnight camping at Kentish Park, Lake Barrington, from April 20 because of 'anti-social' behaviour. Day use remains unchanged. "The closure will allow council staff to undertake due diligence to ascertain if the site can be safely re-opened in an economically feasible manner in the medium to long term, potentially in 18 months," the council said. The decision was prompted by a "serious incident" on New Year’s Day which resulted in a child being hurt when a car collided with a tent.

The Australian Caravan Club will hold a muster for Victorians at the state's Bridgewater Public Caravan Park from April 28 to May 2. Meanwhile, the club says that $14,730 was poured into Bargara's economy when 41 members held a gathering recently at the seaside town near Bundaberg in Queensland.

Two caravanners injured after their rig rolled and caught fire on South Western Highway at Harvey in WA. RAC rescue helicopter, ambulance, fire crews and police all called to crash site.

After leasing the 70-site Boulia Caravan Park on Queensland's Diamantina Developmental Road for three-and-a-half years, Scott and Maryellen Blacket have now bought it.

Vehicle towing caravan collides with school bus on the Geelong Ring Road in Victoria. Emergency services said one person treated at scene.

SA's Discovery Parks - Goolwa caravan park opened its brand new water park today ... just in time for the Adelaide Cup long weekend. "After various delays due to COVID restrictions, we are stoked to finally be bringing you the finished product," it said.

Bingara Riverside Caravan Park in NSW is to receive a $490,000 Federal Government grant for the construction of amenities.

NSW's Hills Shire Council has approved a raft of initiatives to help the recovery from recent floods, including suspending application fees so that caravan park operators can get back to business sooner.

The Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia has officially opened its 30-site RV Park on Chandos Street in Gunnedah in north-eastern New South Wales. Travellers can stay for up to two weeks on the site, which is leased from the local shire council.

CBRE Hotels is marketing Ellis Beach Caravan Park & Oceanfront Bungalows on the Cairns to Port Douglas road north of Palm Cove. The park offers 28 bungalows and cabins, 46 powered caravan sites and 25 camping sites. Additional guest facilities include a pool and kiosk. Further to the beachfront operation is an approved resort development located behind the site ... approved for 221 motel, resort and hotel rooms. Expressions of interest close at 4pm on April 8.

SA's Flinders Highway at Streaky Bay blocked after a vehicle towing a caravan caught fire. There were no reported injuries.

Caravanners in south-east Queensland, including the Sunshine and Gold coasts, should brace themselves for destructive winds, heavy rain and large hailstones this afternoon.

Two travellers escaped virtually unharmed when their caravan rolled on Queensland's Bruce Highway at Monduran north of Gin Gin last night. Paramedics attended the scene but were not needed.

Queensland police have urged people to be on the lookout for a Windsor Rapid caravan, registered number T82695, stolen from Ipswich on March 4.

Guests fled a NSW caravan park just hours before it was submerged in floodwaters ... for the second time in a week. The local council issued the urgent evacuation order last night for the Poplar Tourist Park beside the Nepean River at Camden, stressing that it would be"too dangerous" to rescue people after 9pm. Caravans and cabins ended up under water as water levels rose. There were no reports of casualties. Meanwhile, camping grounds at Kempsey's Delicate Nobby, Point Plummer and Racecourse were put on flood alert today.

Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council in SA is inviting written comments on its plan to lease part of Clare Caravan Park & Catford Gardens to Discovery Parks for 21 years for the purposes of managing and operating a caravan park.

Billed as "a little gem", the
Yankalilla Council-owned Jetty Caravan Park Normanville on SA's Fleurieu Peninsula will provide more pitches for casual travellers. But the move comes at the cost of long-term sites. Thirteen annual licences at the park, which is undergoing a $6m upgrade, have been axed and more are in the firing line. Councillors have also decided the park should join the nationwide BIG4 network of holiday parks.

An investor presentation by Fleetwood, former manufacturer of Coromal and Windsor caravans, says that "volatile and inconsistent" earnings during the past decade have led to its shares underperforming. But its RV Solutions division ‒ which operates RV accessories company Northern Camec and the Melbourne-based caravan repairs and services company Northern RV ‒ "is now in the right trajectory", it adds.

Shares in peer-to-peer RV rental company Camplify opened at three-month low of $2.84 today after yesterday's release over five million shares from voluntary escrow.

Caravanning Queensland today confirmed that its Let's Go Gold Coast Caravan & Outdoor Expo will go ahead as planned at Metricon Stadium from March 4 to 6. "Major stakeholders have assessed the potential risk and determined that the environment is safe and suitable for the event to proceed," a spokesperson said.

MARCH 2:
Colac Otway Shire Council in Victoria has decided to grant a 15-year lease to management services company BelgraviaPRO for the Forrest Caravan Park, with a five-year extension option and a start date to be within six months of May 16. "Council believes the improvements they have planned will be a huge asset as Forrest moves forwards in its tourism aims,” Colac Otway Mayor Kate Hanson said.

MARCH 1:
Campers and multi-day trail walkers in the NT will benefit from greater certainty thanks to a new online booking system introduced today. They will now have access to important information including which parks are open, park visitor numbers, park and campsite profiles and the availability of amenities and services. Other benefits include the certainty of booking an available camping spot and being able to share safety information.
